No Gerrard won it after him. :good

But if I remember rightly in 98, he spent the first two games on the bench because Hoddle preferred Darren Anderton.

I'm not saying he was a bad player. He was very good but great might be a stretch. I know of Utd's 99 title treble winning side. he was the most hyped of the 4 midfielders but easily the worst (Giggs, Keane, Scholes >>> Beckham)

Lee probably by knockout, but Lee's chin is not so good, so you never know about him................

Damn I guess my memory is off I didnt know his injuries were that bad. I just remember all my real madrid bandwagoner fans gettingall excited about him, then having him completely disapoint. You haev to admit that Owen going to real madrid with his hype was one of the most disappointing moments in football history in teh past 15 years, so I stand by the words that he was a hypejob going into madrid.

He really wasn't mate. His strike rate per minutes on the pitch was 2nd in the Spanish league.

No argument there. Scholesy has always been criminally under appreciated. If Wales would just give up the f*cking pipe dream of fielding a competitive footy side and let us have Giggsy we might have had a chance to actually win a WC. And Keano is a f*cking legend.

I dont know man but he was a huge disappointment to the majority of real madrid fans. My memory is a bit hazy but didnt Barcelona completely dominate during his stretch there? that team was fking godly though even though messi wasn't even clsoe to the player he is now.

It was always going to be hard for him to get in the Madrid side as they played a system with only one striker if I remember rightfully and they had Ronaldo. But 13 goals off the bench was impressive.

He was good enough at Madrid that they did manage to get double what they paid for him.

He didn't really go to 5hit until he went to Newcastle and got injured after 4 months and never really returned.

I didn't pay attention to him much after he left madrid. I only watched, chelsea/man utd/****nal/madrid/barcelona/bayern/bremen(they were actually good back then, and bundesliga was played a lot on jsports over here), schalke. But from what I remember he didnt fit in the Madrid system at all, yeah I ugess 13 off the bench is impresive, but let's be honest Madrid fans weren't expecting 13 off the bench when they got him. Owen was one of the most hyped players when they acquired him. I mean look at how well Van Nistelrooy did when he went to Madrid, that's what Madrid fans expected from Owen or better.

Well Ronaldo was still considered the best striker in the world at the time and Madrid never played two up front. Ruud came in right after Ronaldo trashed his knee and he became that lone man up front. If Michael had been that man getting that same service I'm sure he would have stuck them away. His finishing was world class. In his time at Madrid he scored at a better rate than Ronaldo or Ruud when he was on the pitch :conf

:conf Considering what Madrid normally pay for players the 8 million they paid for Owen and the 16 million they got back was probably seen as good business

Certainly there's a sense of "what could have been" about him due to the injuries but to say he was a hype-job is like saying Grant Hill was a hype-job :conf
