I was really only impressed by his chin. He basically did nothing in the second half of the fight when he looked on course for a shut out.

To give you an idea of how good he was at his peak, he was never the same player again after the age of 26 and he still scored the 5th most goals in history for the England national team and the 7th most goals since the inception of the Prem league in '92-'93.

cmon grant hill had like a 20 year career, and was very productive and helpful for every team, can that be said about owen's whole career?

I really didnt watch much of Owen pre Madrid. I was always a big gerrard fan, and the spanish goal keeper I cant remember his name but it wasn't until torres came to liverpool that I really watched them.

Remember, this was '03-'04. Eto'o still hadn't left Mallorca, Zlatan hadn't left Ajax, Drogba hadn't left M****ille.

Van Nistelrooy was terrific but one-dimensional compared to even a somewhat faded Ronaldo. Henry was probably the best in the world though to be fair. But Ronaldo still had far more mystique surrounding him. :good

ronaldo got super hyped up because of the 02 world cup where they fked germany in the ass, my poor kahn got destroyed.
but I'm talking about the 04-05 season that's when owen went to madrid, and that was eto's, and drogba's first season and they dominated, henry as destroying and you're right zlatan was not in inter. got my time line a bit mixed up. speaking of ajax i wonder whatever happened to snejider dude was a fking beast there back then.

Who was a bigger hype job for Liverpool then, Andy Carroll or Balotelli? I'm pretty sure average Liverpool fan can run that club better.

I think it's actually a rather apt comparison. Outside of goalkeepers, footy players don't tend to last as long as basketball players. :conf

Hill had 6 terrific years to start his career, Owen had 7. Then Hill essentially had 3 injury write-off years. While Owen had one year of very solid contribution followed by 2 complete injury write-offs. Michael only had 2 more productive years the rest of the way which brought him to a total of 10 with 7 elite years. Hill went on to have 6 more productive years which brought him to a total of 12 with 6 elite years. Seems like a fair enough comparison.

Got Hyped because of the 2002 world cup? Mate, Ronaldo was already considered the best striker in the world going into the '98 World Cup.
