Andy Lee Vs James Degale at Super Middleweight

Andy Lee has legitimate power in both hands, and we haven't seen DeGale absorb a good shot yet. I would favour DeGale though, he has an effective defence and provides so many angles that you'd expect him to land with regularity.

I'm a big fan of Andy Lee. Seems like a lovely bloke and there doesn't seem to be an ounce of quit in him. I hope he finds a way to succeed at the top level.

 

See i hear this a lot but dont see it. He's been with manny now for years but not got a whole lot better than he is now. IMO mcewan is probabl his best win and he looked poor in doing so, his defence is shocking - one look at his nose will tell you this. he's never fought up at SMW so there's no proof he'll carry his power up.

what makes you think he's suddenly going to start improving?

 

I thought Lee looked dynamite in the first round, but then it got worse from there and McEwan starting landing more frequently. It's to Lee's credit that he was able to pull out the victory under those circumstances, its often what separates the good fighters from the great ones. Not suggesting Lee is great, only that he has shown real qualities that can't be taught.

 

I thinkk that Degale will be found out by Groves when they fight in the coming months. I dont like the way Degale is going on he is looking like a childish **** in all honesty he will look back at that Ringside show with Groves and cringe when he is older. I think Groves may well stop him late on as well.

 

Degale has outperformed Groves considerably in his last few outings, and the only reason I can think of for why someone would actually favour Groves would be because they dislike DeGale. Do you dislike DeGale? Think maybe your emotions are ruling your head on this one, Leighton?

 

I share these thoughts...it's more hope then insight into the fight with many posters backing Groves atm.

 

I don't think Lee would be the type of fighter I'd have concerns putting DeGale in with. He's probably the most stiff upright fighter in the whole world. It's like his back is held up by a rod. That's part of the reason his defence is so porous, he's right 'there' to be hit every second of the fight because he doesn't move his head or his body.

Like I said before about Andy Lee, until I was shot down in flames by a few irish posters, Andy Lee is not an overall skilled fighter. Yes he's very good at one or two things, he's a very good long puncher with nice handspeed and impressive punching when he puts it together. But these are like a couple of attributes of the many it takes to be skilled in this game. He's not skilled at short or mid range and his defence is really bad. Even at distance he has confidence issues about really putting it together, you can see what he has in bursts but he doesn't consistently pull the trigger as you'd want. If he did McEwan wouldn't have been shutting him down so regularly. He seriously can't win this fight without knocking DeGale out.

You said a while ago that Degale kos lee in the first round:roll: I agree that Degale would beat lee but you really need to pull your tongue out of his ass.

 

No I dont do emotions but I can see the good in both fighters. Groves has shown great heart in his fight and under pressure has stood up and been counted for. DeGale has yet to be tested but Groves will be the man to test him and beat him in my opinion. Dont let the hype of DeGale cloud your opinion of the fight it wont be a walkover by any means.
