There's an article on the main page that says Andy Lee is set to fight Willie Gibbs. I don't know what the hell happened to Andy in the Vera fight, except that he got his ass handed to him by right hands that Stevie Wonder could have seen coming! Will Andy get back on track and win this? If he does win, how much does that mean? If you were Manny Steward, and Lee beat Gibbs convincingly, what would you have him do next?
It's a very dangerous comeback fight but I reckon Lee will win it . Look out for Paul McCloskey on the undercard , he's fighting English Light-Welterweight champion and former British/Commonwealth title challenger Nigel Wright . I think McCloskey could potentially do something on the World scene and is one to watch .
Well, Gibbs has only fought once (a loss to Joval) since getting starched ... making two straight defeats and three losses in his last six .. I'll still take him by KO over Andy ...
Well -- Well -- Well we agree on something:yikes I think the Vera fight was a bit of a fluke. Andy assumed he would walk right through a hand picked opponent, and just didn't know what to do when Vera took his best shots. I too hope he learned from this, beats Gibbs, and moves a bit further up the food chain. Andy Lee vs Bronco McKart might be a good scrap, and would give Andy a chance to progress along the learning curve.
Yes we do.:good I think Lee will be ready for a game Gibbs but what I want after that is a rematch of Vera. Facing a guy that stopped you is important for a young fighter like Lee. I expect him to stop Vera in a rematch if they ever fight again.
Gibbs hasn't won a fight since beating Lenord Pierre in March 2006. Since then he has been knocked out twice. Once by Joval in the 12th round and once by Miranda in the 1st. I only saw the Miranda fight and I seem to recall him coming to the ring wearing a ridiculous gladiator helmet. Miranda then proceeded to outbox him until Miranda got bored and stunned him with an overhand right over a lazy jab. I think Andy Lee can take this guy. When Gibbs fought Miranda he didn't just look like the weaker fighter he also looked like the less skilled boxer.
It was but that fight was called off as Macklin intends to go back to fighting in England with Frank Warren now his promoter again(although Brian Peters still manages him) . Bad move imo , I really thought he was going someonewhere with his career over here . Now he'll just fight for the WBU title till he gets a WBO shot at some point(too late probably) in his career .
There's no way Lee would be hyped like that if he really is as bad as he showed in the Vera fight.Stewart would not waste the time with Lee if he had no real talent. I think he took Vera way too lightly,he didn't train to go past 5 rounds and he was not prepared for a guy who would keep comming after absorbing Lee's best shots. I think Steward must shoulder a lot of the blame and i hope Lee will be more prepared after getting a dose of reality Lee ko5
