He hasn't fought 15 times yet and he's fighting regularly (seven times this year?), I wouldn't be too concerned about his level of opposition just yet. That said, he does need to take a step up in 2008.
Lee is more of a prospect in reality than Duddy dreams of being.Even if they fought right now, Lee would cream him.a year from now, we'll see Lee still moving along, and Duddy already cultivating his clubfighting journeryman status.
I was at this card and darn near missed the Lee fight. I was in line getting a Pepsi when I heard the crowd roar. I left the line in time to see the guy get up from the first knockdown, and Lee finished him shortly after that. As Tragicliston said, I wouldn't get to upset about his level of competition unless he doesn't step it up later. After all, he did beat Carl Daniels by brutal KO in his eighth pro fight.
Not to rain on the parade. But just asking how can Khan at 20 beating better people in the same number of fights as Lee is, getting so much abuse?
He's hyped more than Lee. He's a little cocky as well. Also people have grave doubts about his ability to take a good punch. Thus the suspicion in some quarters that the public is being taken for a ride. Time will tell.
Good question. I think Khan gets overly criticized, too. Prospects should be brought along gradually, and each is different. They aren't all going to be like Povetkin, fighting high quality opposition so early in his career. Of course, Pov is older than the other two. Bottom line is, we fans should probably show a little more patience with hot prospects than we do.
I don't think you can read much into how long a fighter stays protected. Pavlik was protected for about 26 fights. Lee is only 23 - that's too young to get ready for a belt.
I did that too during the Pac/Marquez undercard featuring Miguel Cotto. I didn't know who Cotto was at the time so I went to get a hot dog. My cousin was like "You just missed this awesome Knockout" You gotta get your food in between fights..
Nice to see him continue winning impressively. Steward knows what he's doing and will bring Lee along at a good pace.
You know if anyone was taping these fights... Im hoping they show up on youtube eventually, or maybe andyleeboxing.com, or something like that.
That was an interesting card last night, Brooklyn. The action in the ring was interesting, but the production was strange. They had no round card girls, and apparently just grabbed a few girls out of the crowd to carry the cards in their street clothes. Hopefully, the Dearborn card next month will be a good show. I don't know much about Lee's opponent last night, but he took him out the way he should have. You can't ask for more than that.
I know they had camera's there and were videotaping; the crowd was actually kind of sparse and before the last three fights (Cintron, Lee, and Banks) they asked fans in the upper seats to move down to the floor seats and to the side of the ring that would show up on video. I don't think it was for any TV production, but I'd check You tube and Andy's website in a few days.
