All this prediction stuff is such bull****. He's gonna be great, he's not gonna be great.Lee is what 24, He bounced back well, with a lot of pressure on him. Why don't we just wait and see whay happens!
I have always been unimpressed with Andy Lee. He might be a contender in this weak middleweight division. But he does little for me. Way too stiff and robotic for my liking.
Especially as it was Haye's 14th fight I believe. I'm starting to think that maybe Lee should move on from Manny soon enough. He's not gonna improve a lot more under him. Yeah he'll get more experienced as he goes along obviously, but Manny's fighters can be very stiff and robotic as you said. Lee could do well moving to a different trainer after his next couple of fights.
The fight was pretty straightforward. Lee knocked seven shades of **** out of Gibbs. Most of the time Lee stood well outside and picked him off, then he moved inside and started hitting him with brief combinations. When Lee moved in and started unloading, Gibbs particularly later on in the fight started connecting with a few in exchanges. He came off worse in every round though. It was stopped late in the last round because Lee was battering him, after the knock down, and Gibbs' corner through the towel in. I felt sorry for Gibbs because he had hung in there, eating a lot of punishment, and deserved to see the final bell, but he was just eating punches at that stage. On Lee in general: I really wish that people would develop less absolutist opinions on fighters. He was an excellent prospect. He lost to Vera in a fight that turned into a bit of a war. He came back and dismantled Gibbs. All we know at this point is that he is still a good prospect. He's a kid with 17 fights. He will get better. He might end up as a gatekeeper. He might end up as a champion. At this point none of us know at all. Manny is wrong to hype him to such a degree. Others are wrong to write him off. Give him a chance.
I forgot to mention two other things: 1) Loads of fighters lose a fight or two on the way up. They are learning their trade and sometimes they will get things wrong. Lee's loss might screw up his career or it might turn out to be a very good learning experience. We won't know for a while yet. 2) Lee has always been inconsistent. As an amateur, he would show up to one fight and look like a world beater and then show up to the next and lose to someone who wasn't really in his league. He really needs to rectify this and come to the ring with the same intensity each time. If he can't, he will likely end up as the sort of fighter who has a good but very flawed career. That would be a pity as he is the most skilled of the Irish fighters currently active.
Lee is for real. He just needs a few more fights before stepping up, needs a little more experience, but the Vera fight helped him a lot.
Can't Believe Some Of The Posts On This Thread. I Guess There's Fans, And Then There's European Fans... This Guy Doesn't Stand A Chance Against The "a Level" Guys In Mw , Not Now, Not Ever... Even Without Steward, Who Is Hurting Him More Than Helping.
I know you and I have discussed the difference between being protected and being brought along. Nice win for Lee, no doubt about it.
Lee has talent...what's wrong with today's boxing is that you're not allowed to lose early in your career, because if you do then the TV networks and promoters don't want to risk their time or money with you. Not saying AL will be a HOF anytime soon, but one loss isn't the end of the world.
Right :goodNow it seems that he listend to Emanuel Steward. And this will help him to become a much better fighter.
Great Post I think Lee is a victim of Steward's arrogance. It is almost impossible to live up to the hype that Stewart spews out and because of this people are expecting Lee to look like a prime RJJ.I still have my doubts about Lee but he could well win a title in a ****-poor division when Pavlik and/or AA move up to 168
