I quite enjoy the tennis but thats probably coz im from the same town as Murray. But since I started to follow him I have found myself enjoying watching many of the other players too. The next few years is gonna be a really tough era in tennis with several quality young players on the up.
Why? I consider myself first and foremost English but I'm also a very proud holder of a Britsh passport as well. Your arguement is a baseless generalisation and reflects this sense of paranoia that Scots seem to feel whenever someone vaguely brings up, or for that matter touches on, anything related to national identity. No-one hates the Scots en mass (or at least the majority of rational people don't)- the only reason this opinion ever gets voiced is due to the unsilent minority spouting crap.
The Scotland England footy banter is just that....banter. As a Celtic fan I love the banter between us and the rangers fans, You always read about the disgraceful sectarian songs sung at the matches etc and how offensive they are to each other but they seem to forget these guys are all at work together the following monday having a guid craic aboot the fitba
:yep, too many people in Scotland get their knickers in a twist whether it's Scotland v England or Rangers v Celtic. Dunky McCafferty was on another Andy Murray thread trying to say that the English people who are supporting Murray at Wimbledon shouldn't be supporting him as they were the same people sending him death threats a couple of years ago. That's like me telling my Indian mate he can't support Rangers cause my shed got robbed by another 2 Indians :?. P.S We Are The People :nut
And England fans couldn't support any team with Beckham in it as they were the one who sent him death threats in 1998.
Completely agree!! I like him because he's a straight talker and cuts through all the shite. He doesn't care if anyone thinks he's a dour miserable scottish ****, he just gets on with the tennis. After years of gentleman loser Tiger Tim, greasy ***** Lewis Hamilton, little bender Theo Walcott - hows about time for someone who doesn't give a **** about celebrity culture and their image/fame - and just wants to win?? Same reason I love Amir Khan the two best lads in british sport
Yeah, I live pretty near Dunblane too. People here treat him like a local boy- I didn't forgot he was playing on Friday, until I noticed the streets were dead except for tourists, and ran home!
Can't argue with that at all, I will always class myself as Scottish but don't deny to be British. I am just pointing out in comparison Henman received much more support throughout his career - Murray received a different kind of pressure, instead of wanting him to win (in the way Henman was treated) the majority of England fans would be just as happy/happier to see him fail. The amount of English Nadal "fans" that turned out for last years quarters demonstrates that perfectly..... Scot's aren't paranoid, we just say it like it is, that's why we have the best coaches & managers this side of the land :smooch
