You know, the biggest misconception I had when I joined this forum in 1907 was that I assumed people who would join a boxing forum to talk about boxing...actually appreciated boxing and the people who are successful at it. But, instead, 98% of the comments display an uncanny ability to think being in the top 2% of fighters makes them an enormous and ghastly disappointment. I mean, this world champion is just another other world champion, and that's an insult. It's really bizarre, when you think about it a second.

I wont knock him. He achieved greatness and mentally and physically destroyed Joshua fair and square. But i still think he's a gatekeeper, besides that he's looked terrible.

I've never understood that... I watched the fight live and I've watched it back a couple of times. Parker won that fight.
If it was anywhere outside of NZ, people wouldn't have claimed it was a shitty decision.

And that's coming from a kiwi who isn't hot on Parker.

The Chisora match on the other hand - Derek has much more of an argument IMO.

It was close in rounds but the rounds to score were pretty clear cut. I agree with the judges and had Parker winning by 2 points.

This. Not to mention that Arreola is very familiar with Ruiz’s style, since he used to use Ruiz as a sparring partner a lot back when he was a top contender and Ruiz was still a prospect, so it wasn’t a shocker that Ruiz struggled with Arreola.

Exactly, Chris has dealt with Ruiz’s style before and It doesn’t help that he can crack. The more time goes by the more I think we’re giving Ruiz way too much ****

Lol, I think your over rating Tua hugely. He lost to everyone he fought that had a pulse, the perfect example of not being able to achieve with just a punch

He’s definitely looked better, but he was against an opponent who came to fight, was in good shape, and has ko power

Let's see how Ruiz does in his next fight. Lest not forget this was his first fight under Reynoso. And on top of this he seemingly cut an awful lot of weight quite fast. And whilst Areola certainly gave him hell for two rounds. It was a comfortable victory for Ruiz by the end.

Now if he gets blown out by the Ghost of Pugilist Past, then I think it's fair to downgrade his achievement.

Arreola was shot to bits or are you just forgeting that ? And the fact that Ruiz couldn't KO him makes it even worse. Based on that argument you can say Ruiz was familiar with the skills of prime Chris Arreola.

He just isn't good. He lost to Parker in a close fight and Parker has lost to Whyte, looked like trash against FA and got a gift decision against a 37 year old Chisora LOL didn't this guy lose to David Haye, Pulev, Usyk, easily and multiple others ? And that was a younger version let alone the current Chisora. The fact that old Chisora has more of an argument vs Parker than Ruiz does means he was probably a better pressure fighter in his prime than Ruiz. He beat Aj yes but then got easily beat in the immediate rematch. Like i said, at least Rahman beat Corrie Sanders and Oliver Mccall beat past it Holmes, the same past it Holmes that schooled Mercer.

I used to think highly of him but not anymore, Ruiz has got to show me more because he hasn't shown much besides his big achievement against Aj, because from what i can tell that night was nothing more than Ruiz landing a 1 in a 1000 chance shot. I doubt he could replicate it again nor would be beat any other top 10 fighter. Ruiz is the embodiment of anything can happen in boxing
