I agree with this.

I remember talking about the heavyweight division a while ago, and I said that neither Klitschko has faced a guy who throws good combinations, can body punch and things like that. It's rare to see it these days because most of the big heavyweights just time a single power punch to the head, over and over again. Even Wlad does that. Ruiz may be out of shape but **** it, he is bringing something different to the table. In a division full of stiff, predictable punchers, he is bringing speed, combinations and workrate. That's a good thing.

 

On another note, the first Mexican heavyweight champion will be a massive star in boxing, I think. If Ruiz or Arreola can win a world title, they'd become PPV attractions and earn millions and millions. That must be a pretty good incentive for a guy like Ruiz.

 

I agree with everything you said except that he's out of shape. Andy's not out of shape... he just doesn't have a body that looks like it's in shape. But whatever... I'd rather him be a badass in the ring w/ a soft body than a pushover w/ a chiseled one.

 

It's a big incentive.

 

What's his chin like?

 

Andy has never been knocked down in sparring or in any of his more than 100 amateur matches or 17 pro fights. He doesn't know what it's like to be knocked down. Or hurt.

Plus the kid has great head-movement when he wants to use it... as is evident in this video.

 

There was 1 second left!!! Eli didn't look more hurt than during other combos. Why stop the fight? :verysad

 

You saw part of one round in the fight. Did you ever wonder what kind of a beating he took in the other rounds? Ya know, that does play a part in the stoppage.

 

I'm not sure how that video says anything about his chin, but it was a nice performance.

Is he really 6'2"? Maybe he hunches over a bit, but he looks more like 6'0" to me.

I'll be keeping an eye out on him for future fights.

I wasn't talking about his chin when I posted that video... only his head-movement. However, I prefer that he doesn't take a lot of punches so he doesn't have to show how good of a chin he has. I like my boxers to have good defense. And he does hunch a little. In boxing we're taught that shorter guys should fight short and taller guys should fight tall.
