There is a genetic component to this stuff. Not everyone can be an elite endurance guy no matter how hard they work at it. Not everyone can be an elite sprinter no matter how they train.

Maybe AJ, like Vlad before him, isn't really a great endurance guy no matter how much cardio he does??? We will see soon enough.

There is also a sports specific component. You can be the best guy in the gym on the elliptical machine which may not mean so much in a boxing ring.

All that being said, it's disappointing to see Ruiz come in heavier than last fight. It is not an indicator of the guy taking this fight and his career super seriously. It's an indicator of the guy living a little too much of the good life before getting back into training.

Ruiz may still win this fight but ballooning up between fights and being that overweight will shorten his career as a top fighter. It will catch up to him. The question is will it catch up to him tomorrow.

Does losing weight muscle or fat make AJ's chin any better?

Does it give him more heart?

It's just cheap boxing maths to say "If AJ boxing like against Parker he should win.". It's Fanboy bull**** talk.
Parker BOXED vs. AJ. He fought cautiously and very, very anxious. And the few times he tried to work his way into the pocket, he wasn't allowed to continue/follow up by the ref. Ruiz is fighting completly different. He did it in the first fight and he'll do it in the second.
It's just nonsense from AJ fangirls.
AJ has to fight like he fought in first fight, just stay relaxed, wait for openings, counter left hook.
He didn't dominate before the Knockdown and he wasn't losing, it was a close fight between them in R1+2 and it will be a close fight again. AJ shouldn't change anything than fighting even more composed after hurting Ruiz. AJ made the big mental fault he thought he can walk right through Ruiz after the KD, because he did it like that in the past. He learned that Ruiz is one class above all those guys he stopped with that kind of attitude. If he fights like he fought in R1,2 , it will be a close fight where i slightly favor Ruiz becuase of the mental aspect but AJ still has the name he might grab the close rounds and win a decision. And of course AJ still has the power to hurt/drop Ruiz. But he has to stay composed after hurting. And as he isn't dumb i fully expect him to cash out a 10-8 round for example instead of going for the KO in a dumb way and getting caught again.
I won money on Ruiz KO in the first fight, i won't take any bets here. I will just watch and enjoy a good fight - hopefully.
If i have to pick anybody...i would probably pick Joshua by Decision. Ruiz at 280 is bad. Really bad. He might fade after 7-8 rounds and if AJ is still in the fight at this point, maybe 3-5 down or 4-4 in rounds, he should cruise to a close Dec.

Think it's safe to say ruiz hasnt been as focused as he says he has. No way he would have came in heavier if he was fully focused.

That will give AJ a little confidence boost.

AJ stops him this time.. Tko in 8 or less

I joined late and to sum up my impressions: Molina looks damn good, like he took it serious. I am quite surprised by him, but there is no way he upsets Hrgovic. If it was for someone else I could say yes, but not now.

Next about Wach, he looks like he is there just for the money... Honestly we have seen him in a much better shape.

Both Hrgovic and Whyte will win for sure. As for Hunter and Povetkin, damn I am very pumped about it! Probably as the same as Joshua and Ruiz!

Joshua showing up with headphones is lame I think. But he looks skinnier and I think that this time his team worked on his stamina and he won't take as much risks like before and we might see a decision.

One thing I’ve never understood about this forum is all the talk about AJ being a huge super heavyweight. He’s basically tall and quite lanky naturally, with varying amounts of excess muscle. Wilder is built like a skinny basketball player and Joshua is only slightly bigger.

I'd say they are around the same build naturally....

Yep. Not heavily built. Tall. Wilder a bit more chicken-legged.

I know, but this time it is the one time that he fights after his loss. Plus against Klitschko he didn't have headphones on, I am pretty sure.

That only works if you keep your opponent at bay. Have him to chase and move his large body around the ring.

If the big guy is about to put pressure on a light one. The later is gonna get drained fast.

Think of Hughie Fury and Miller as prime examples of it. Hughie vs Pulev was a great example on what I mean.

He gets paid handsomely to rock those headphones, it's not a fashion statement you know..

    You'd wear them too lol

    Ruiz is a fat blob.

For some fighters, winning the HW title was the worst thing to ever happen to them. It's like winning the lottery; they end up worse off than they were before they won.
