Williams wins this all day. Ruiz would be plodding around the ring all night eating jabs. Williams wins like 9-3. Against the version of Ruiz from the second Joshua fight (and beyond), he wins 12-0. Williams might even stop him.

 

You’re talking about a guy who got dropped by James Tillis. Get back to watching Mr. Universe.

 

He may have gotten dropped by Tillis, but, he got up and won the fight. He also held an ATG in Larry Holmes to a close, disputed decision loss.

And, why is it even relevant? It isnt like Ruiz is some knockout artist. Other than Joshua, he has almost zero impressive knockouts in his entire career. He is only 36, and hasn't scored a knockout (or even a knockdown) in close to 7 years.

 

He doesn’t really even fight anymore, but he did drop Ortiz more than once, so you’re wrong.

As for Williams, he was significantly less durable than Joshua and just a worse fighter overall. That’s why he got dropped by Tillis and would fold against a prime Ruiz.

 

Even the hapless Charles Martin was able to drop Ortiz at this point of his career, so, that minor oversight doesn't change the big picture. Ruiz is not an elite puncher. And, in spite of his shortcomings in the durability department, Williams was an elite boxer. Certainly good enough to beat a guy like Ruiz. If they fought 10 times, maybe Ruiz does get lucky and stop Williams once or twice. But, I will take the 80-90% odds on Williams jabbing his way to a wide victory.

 

No, Williams was not an elite boxer. He would’ve outboxed Tommy while a little past it and not gotten immediately drilled by an unfocused Tyson if that were true.

Name a heavyweight from the last fifteen years who has caused more decent fighters to quit than Andy Ruiz. I’ll wait.

At least Ruiz and Liston were both champions. Somebody just called Williams an “elite boxer” despite a post-Tyson Berbick being the only contender he ever beat.

Ruiz is not a puncher sorry and worse if you think Joshua gave him problems with his robotic movement wait till he sees how Williams moves.

Ruiz couldn't stop a totally past it Liakhovich who had been stopped in 3 out of his last 4 fights.

Somehow almost lost to an ancient Ortiz despite dropping him 3 times who's punch resistance wasn't there anymore.

Recently got a gift decision vs an obese Miller who isn't that good.

Now i'm not saying Williams is some great fighter and he does have weaknesses like his chin is suspect and he's vulnerable to left hooks.

But Ruiz can be outboxed he has concrete feet despite his quick hands, and Williams has a big height and reach advantage being 6'5 with an 85 inch reach.

I could see Williams using that very good jab and keeping it at range to win a decision.
