The winner will probably face Wilder. It may be best for boxing if Ruiz wins to avoid Wilder vs Ortiz 3 for the title...

And that's the only fighter in the top 10 he's fought and been stopped twice

Life and death? He had a flash knockdown and won pretty much ever other round.

Ortiz stops him, Ruiz will walk straight into his counters.

He was hurt badly several times, and exchanged big punches that will be fatal against Ortiz.
Arreola is shot; a former HW champ shouldn't have had any issues defeating him.

Wilder won't fight Ortiz again. I like Ortiz for him as an opponent, but hopefully he'll return prior to that point because Ruiz likely won't be ready again until 2023.

Ortiz's punch resistance and gas tank have gone at an official 43 years old so if he was able to KO Ruiz in the first half (his only path to victory) it would be something. He's got to turn the fight into a shootout, knowing that he'll fade and be taken out down the stretch if he doesn't. Ortiz is a southpaw (Ruiz has never fought one in the pros) is the more skilled boxer, has been more disciplined in his career, is longer and has a lot more power and Ruiz was down early against AJ and Arreola. So you've got to give Ortiz a decent chance even at this stage.

Totally disagree. Ruiz's chin is solid. He took shots that you could tell hurt, but at no time was he dazed or seriously in danger of being stopped.

I don't agree that Arreola is shot. I think his time with Goosen has been good for him. He came into the Ruiz and Kownazki fight in better shape than he was against Vitali or Wilder and gave a good account of himself both times. The guy BROKE THE RECORD for punches thrown in a heavyweight fight against Kownazki.

I also don't think "guy struggled or didn't have an easy time with x opponent means he's shot." That's like the people who thought Evander was "shot" because he got rocked by Cooper and almost stopped. Sometimes an underdog comes in with a good plan, in good shape, or just gets a lucky shot in. Either way, a tough win (usually) doesn't denigrate the winner in my mind, it esteems the loser.

Ruiz gets so much hate on this board basically because he upset AJ and ppl on here are so mad to see a fat guy succeed in boxing. Then he loses a ton of weight and lo-and-behold, he can't aborb the same shots he did, and people decide that means he's "shot."

People are just jealous that the fat kid is successful.

I would love that fight, but I think Wilder will return sooner and likely against a soft touch. Maybe a top 15, Helenius level guy, but I think his next more marquee bout will be Q1 2023.

I agree with some of these points but not others. Coming off the biggest win of his life, Ruiz did not train like a professional for the rematch with Joshua. It was obvious. He pulled a Buster Douglas. He took 18 months off after that and then looked like **** against Arreola.

The bottom line with Ruiz is that he has been an underachiever for most of his career. Through 2018 he fought sporadically, and then he had the breakthrough 2019 with the impressive KO of Dimitrenko and then of course AJ. But unfortunately he has reverted to form after that, looking uninspired in the ring and languishing from inactivity.

Thing is, he's only in his early 30s and is the one guy who has fought at the top and doesn't appear to be on the way out. Fury is gone or nearly gone, Wilder is nearly gone, Usyk may have 1-2 years left at most, Joshua appears to be fading, etc. Ruiz could be a legitimate challenger to the next generation of HWs, but he has to show some motivation.

It will be interesting to see how Joyce would last against Wilder's power.
