Discounting people from the UK in 2017 General, I think it’s pretty clear that Joshua’s spot on the super heavy standings is somewhere behind both Klitschko’s and Lewis and somewhere on the same tier as Bowe and Fury. The Ruiz fight didn’t dramatically change that, it just makes it harder to put him at the top of that second tier.

He definitely jabbed more in the second Sharkey fight than he had in previous fights, but I don't see anything brilliant or "damn good" about it.

You've never heard that one because it doesn't fit with the neat little revisionist fairy tale that classic fans tell about Schmeling. But it's there if you check the original, contemporaneous sources and the observations of people who actually watched him fight in the late 20s and early 30s.

Then show me fights and moments when his left hand was weak, if that's only revisionism.

I think that people who said that didn't understand his style.

His left hook did a lot of his dirty work.

He basically beat Paulino Uzcdun with his right out of action!

A moment when it was weak? I don't know what you're looking for. If you want footage, watch the first Sharkey fight carefully I guess.

I don't know what to tell you. It was widely known at the time that his left was pretty harmless, other than as a distraction or range-finder. From what I can tell it was seen as a complete nonentity in the 20s but something that he worked on a bit in the 30s. But nobody ever praised him for having a very good jab.

Just saw an article claiming that, but the round-by-round writeup I saw describes Schmeling as throwing hard rights throughout the fight.

Schmeling was a European fighter, and he fought in the European style.

That means that although he was an orthodox fighter, he operated more like a southpaw.

His overhand right was his lead punch and his range finder, and he would typically follow up with left hooks to the body, and uppercuts.

Yes , Andys excellent timing and footwork allow him to pop a very effective jab. Jab ins't just about reach ,it also about movement and set-up.
Joe Louis pelted Baer's head with the jab and he had a short reach just like Andy.

But Joe Louis had one of the best jabs in HW history. Ruiz is not close to that level and his jabs didn't have as much power as Joe's.

Yeah, in the first Sharkey fight his jab looks less efficient than in their rematch or other fights I've seen. Maybe it's because he indeed improved his left hand later or maybe because he didn't figure out Sharkey yet, Jack was not a rythmic fighter. Tough to say, but he still threw many jabs in this fight and I wouldn't call it poor at all.

At their best, Max knocks him senseless and shows him what it's like to be in the ring with a real professional, full time fighter.

Who knew that Max Baer was the paragon of professionalism and dedication? I learn something new every day here.

Ruiz can't box, he is a bum that hits hard, boxing history is loaded with them.
