Andy Ruiz vs Jarrell Miller scoring - Ruiz clearly won

    Just rewatched the fight as Ruiz is fighting this weekend. When I first watched it I thought Ruiz nicked it and was told I was insane. This was my card on rewatch:

    1 - Ruiz
    2 - Ruiz
    3 - Ruiz
    4 - Ruiz
    5 - Miller
    6 - Ruiz
    7 - Ruiz (swing)
    8 - Ruiz
    9 - Miller
    10 - Miller
    11 - Ruiz
    12 - Miller

    116 - 112 Andy Ruiz

    A few notes on the scoring:

    - Walking forward and looking like an imposing unit doesn’t win you rounds. (You have to actually land punches.) And neither does shoe-shining in the last ten seconds.

    - Looking like an exhausted tub of lard doesn’t lose you rounds. Miller certainly had the better ‘optics’ in this fight but that is irrelevant to round by round scoring.

    - I honestly don’t see any case for Miller winning this or even getting a draw. The commentary was crazy: claiming Miller was winning a round just because he was the one walking forward, ignoring the body shots and inside counters Ruiz was landing throughout. People were right this was a robbery - but it was Ruiz who was (clearly) robbed!


    Go on then rip me apart.

    I remember a controversial verdict. The first time I saw it, without looking at the scorecard, I had the impression that Miller deserved the verdict. Then I watched it again and I had a three point advantage over Miller, thus confirming my initial impressions.
