You don't have to be the WBC #1 contender to be the mandatory. (See Breazeale)

I'd like to see Tyson Fury-Luis Ortiz. The last southpaw Fury faced (Wallin) did well against him.

I agree that he's not a huge puncher, but a lot of people had him beating Parker

Still can't believe that the Dosser is ranked #1 by the WBC despite him coming off two biblical shellacking stoppage defeats

Keithy Thurman was recently elevated to the #1 position by the WBC too. I'm a Keithy fan but he's only fought once in 2 years and that was a win over Mario Barrios almost six months ago

So, I highly doubt it will end up happening because there's tons of unlikely ifs, but I just had a funny thought.

Let's say Fury really does end up retiring, which I don't think will happen but let's say it does just for fun, maybe those claims he's afraid of possibly losing to Usyk end up being true, I dunno, the point is he retires. That would then mean that the winner of this fight will likely fight Wilder for the vacant belt, even though he's had back to back stoppage losses and hasn't fought in almost a whole damn year, but whatever. I think Ruiz is going to beat Ortiz and while I'm not sure how he'd hold up against Wilder, if he managed to pull off that win that would make him the second heavyweight to hold all four belts, albeit not all at once, which in and of itself is an interesting fact. But the part that I find funny is if Usyk beats AJ again (which I believe will happen), that would mean in an era where the top heavyweights are usually 6'5 or higher, the first undisputed heavyweight fight in over 20 years would be between two "short" guys, neither of which have the usual physique of modern heavyweights. Usyk's height, reach and usual weight wouldn't be out of place in the golden age of heavyweight boxing, whereas Ruiz... well, his body type isn't the first that comes to mind when you think of a heavyweight champion.

Also the undisputed fight would be between two guys who beat AJ. I don't have anything against him personally (though the "free burgers" thing was kinda irritating to hear about), but I'm sure some people would find that one funny.

I think Ruiz wins this one. But he needs get more active, you could tell ring rust was a factor against Arreola.

It would be a sad kind of funny. An undisputed HW fight, but the consensus #1 HW is nowhere in sight.

It's tough. You don't want to see Wilder recycled without winning anything who has really stepped up and made it clear he's the man?

The WBC has a reasonable top set of guys, interestingly enough:

    1. Wilder
    2. Joyce
    3. Parker
    4. Sanchez
    5. Ruiz
    6. Makhmudov
    7. Whyte
    8. Ortiz

Now I like Wilder vs Joyce. The winner of that is a really legitimate opponent for the Usyk vs AJ winner.

It just sucks that Joyce didn't really strike after beating Dubois, do what it took to get another really good win, and make himself the absolute man to beat outside AJ/Usyk/Fury.

Nah. I'd pick any version of Arreola over Charles Martin.

I'm going against the majority here and think Ortiz beats Ruiz. Stylistically I think the fight favours Ortiz as Ruiz doesn't have much of a right hand the usual weapon against a southpaw and his come forward style will suit the counter punching style of Ortiz this won't be like the Martin fight where Ortiz was out sized and had to press against a moving target. Also Ruiz hasn't fought in over a year and it will 16 months of inactivity when they both do finally step in the ring. I could see a rusty Ruiz walking into a bomb. If Arreola can put him down and wobble him then Ortiz can put him down and keep him down.

If it goes past 6 rounds then the fight will probably turn to Ruiz's favour as the older Ortiz fades but Ruiz will probably get taken the distance then as he's not known for stopping guys later in fights, his power seems to fade in the 2nd half he's only stopped 2 guys after round 6. Then it's up to the judges and maybe Ruiz can win a decision.
