In my copy Gene Tunney wrote ."The finest fiction about the fight game, I have read."

I saw on this Hemingway bio from the biography channel that once, he won a fishing price in cuba and the locals were angry about him winning their money so he gave them a chance to win it back. His propposal was thaf if anyone was able to last in the ring 3 rounds with him he would give the money back. According to local accounts and bio channel, he kept his money.

And the little fact that he pretty much created and perfected the 20th c short story... And the fact places like the university of Iowa still crank out 3rd rate facsimiles of him yearly...

Fifty Grand should be must reading for all classic forum folks. Its an outstanding story and gives a strong nod to Walker vs Britton as well as Leonard vs Britton. And dear old Soldier Bartfield almost steals the show!
