My first exposure to the term happened some years ago, and at the time time I thought it was a death sentence or condemnation/declaration against something. So with GBP and HBO now appearing to be a burnt bridge at war with each other, it seemed like a good term to use.

However, given your post, I just looked the term up again and found fatwas can cover numerous other issues, most of which are mundane and not necessarily hostile in topic.
