Some character. Wonder what he would have made of himself as a fighter if he really set his mind to it. http://www.boxing.com/exquisite_angel_robinson_garcia.html
Garcia is one of my favorites. Man when he was firing on all cylinders he was very good. Not great, but very good. Unfortunately he liked to drink, party, and ***** around and that ruined him.
I watched that highlight reel at the end and what is a crying shame is the repeated use of the same photos and film clip. That pic of him with Eddie Perkins was a beaut, but the rest shows how little there is out there on him. With the amount of fighters he fought over 20 years in over 20 countries, what a story this guy could have told.
None of those highlights are even of him. One is Griffith-Paret 3 and I cant remember the other but it isnt Garcia.
I saw that one of the Griffith-Paret fight right away also, but I didn't know about the other. Basically because I have no reference point on what he looked like in the ring. A really schlock job when it comes down to it. Is the dude on the train even him either????
I've never seen footage of him but from what I have read he was a sort of Emmanuel Augustus type. Gave many champions tough fights and would fight anyone anytime.
He didnt fight anything like Augustus. Much more classical and less unorthodox. He fought sort of like Ali.
Kind of, not as flashy maybe but he definately had that slick Cuban style that those expats came away with. He was fun to watch. He was very capable of beating some slightly lesser champions but he wasnt great like Laguna or Perkins or Napoles and so he wasnt never going to be a champ with those guys hovering around his weight. Like I said before, he didnt do himself any favors by spending so much time partying. Had he been more focused and professional he might have gone farther.
