Anyone seen much of this Cuban great...Id especially like to know if someone has seen his fights with Duran and Laguna. Stopped 3 times in 230+ fights and two of those stoppages appear to be from cuts from what I can see.
Whatta blast from the past for me, WR. In the '50s, watched ARG spar (Stood in the pocket -- very relaxed, used a minimum of movement -- had a tight Gavilan bolo punch) and train at the 5th St. Gym in Miami. Won a couple bucks on him when he fought Bobby Bell at the Miami Beach Auditorium.
Thanks for the insight john...what was the mail on him back then, was he a top contender or a journeyman/tough trialhorse kind of fighter?
At the point I watched 'im, WR (way before he was a trial horse), he was burnin' up the gym -- looked so sweet -- sure-fire to rocket to the top.
