Garcia's story ended pretty sad. After travelling the world in search of fights he ended up in Paris. Nobody would allow him to fight anymore due to his age and ringwear. By the late 80s he was homeless, and completely broke, blind in one eye, and sporting a face covered with scar tissue. He was reduced to sleeping in the subway tunnels and panhandling for money or stealing whatever he could to survive. He would still frequent the gyms to shadowbox, jump rope, and give pointers to the younger fighters. Despite being fifty he still held out hope that someday he would be able to fight again. Im trying to confirm if he actually died in 2000 as Boxrec states. He was in very bad shape in the late 1980s and if he made it another 12-15 years thats pretty remarkable.
