Guy, at a middleweight weight, completely destroyed Firpo within one round, despite being outweighed 50 pounds. Only one loss in his 49 fights, a late career points loss. 44 KO's in those 49 wins. Was his power that serious? How good a fighter was Angel?
He is like Lamar Clark--a fantastic winning and knockout record but mainly against nobodies. He stopped Firpo very early in Firpo's career although he was giving up 50 lbs. It is too bad he didn't come to the states and test himself. As is, he certainly was a prospect, but remains an historical enigma who is unproven against world class opposition.
LOL, he never met anyone of note other than Firpo, and he beat Firpo on Luis' debut. Anyone can string 49 wins together, even you and me if we have the right matchmakers behind us. And it should be noted this was merely the known record of Rodriguez, I suspect there are more fights and more defeats (and wins) on his true resume. Plus a South American fighter pre 1980 with 50 or more fights, without a draw....:blood
Yeah, "anyone" putting together 49 wins is absolute garbage. Reminds me of Haughn's comments about Cesar Chavez.
All Angel Rodiguez ever fought were Montevideo Mail men. You are using a very poor comparison with Greg's (tough) Tijuana Taxi Driver comment. Chavez had beaten Camacho, Taylor, Mayweather (twice), Ramirez, Rosario, LaPorte and Lockbridge, before he met Haugen. Rodriguez in 49 known wins met no one other than Firpo, and it was Firpo's debut. I stand by my comment that me and you could rack 50 wins up with the right matchmaking and I use the career of Mark Gastineau to back up my claim, that it could be possible.
