    Angelo Dundee

"This is a big guy with a big punch, who might have given Marciano the kind of trouble Gerry Cooney could have. Coetzee is a real good right hand banger, but he'd have trouble finding Marciano with that punch.

The South African isn't a great fighter, but he's a dangerous contender. He'd have been a danger to Marciano. But, Rocky would have backed him up and made him even more awkward than he is. He'd have battered him to the body and driven him into the ropes and unloaded to the head on him.

Still, as i see it, it could have been a war until the end".

Dundee actually spent loads and loads of time around him and saw him up close. I think in the article he said Goldman did the best job he's ever seen a trainer do with a fighter. High praise.

I wasn’t talking about his feelings toward Rocky but toward Coetzee, I’m trying to make the idea of him being competitive with Marciano, regardless of the size differential in this case, compute in my mind.

Holster the insults. Again, what I was saying about Angelo was regarding him thinking there was any chance in the world Gerrie Coetzee could be competitive with or "a danger to" Rocky regardless of his size advantage. I don't think Coetzee, who I didn't think much of in real time or now, at any point in his life saw someone with the work rate of Rocky and Rocky would chop him down and it wouldn't take long.

Let me try this again ... the comments that I was pondering whether Angelo had been into the hooch before he said them had nothing to do with the sainted Rocky, and I was more poking fun at Angelo who could spread some sunshine in his interviews rather than trying to insult him. I was responding, specifically, to:

"This is a big guy with a big punch, who might have given Marciano the kind of trouble Gerry Cooney could have."

"He'd have been a danger to Marciano."

"It could have been a war until the end".

I am on record here that even though I have Rocky ranked No. 5 all time, I think a lot of other ATGs especially those with some physical advantages would have taken him in H2H matchups.

Frickin' Gerry Coetzee ain't in that group, all I'm trying to say ...

    1. If you wat to call someone a moron, it's best to not misspell the first word in your (this is the correct usage of the word "your", take notes) sentence.

    2. You clearly misinterpreted his point. He was actually defending your cult hero Marciano.
    3. You're (which is the word you were looking for, but to stupid to spell it) one of the worst posters here. Your entire rhetoric consists of "49-0... Nuff said", and "How does Liston..... rate as champion..... when he QUIT..... on his stole". Even the General is out of your league.

I could say my post never said other but i'd be dishonest about my feeling as i posted hahaha.

Marciano does get a lot of throwaway comments like that. He'd have to watch Coetzee's right hand but as Dundee said he would have had trouble finding a home for it.

I tell you what, how about you pick the next installment. I'll throw three up for now, Snipes, Witherspoon or Weaver? We'll leave the likes of Holmes and Cooney for last.

I think this is the first time I've agreed with Dundee in a fantasy matchup.

Careful,,posting quotes even from a legendary trainer that Gerry Cooney would give Marciano trouble could trigger the Rocky fan club.
Hmm? that one ever been done, Cooney vs Marciano?

See I think Rocky would have serious issues with Cooney although Cooney would have to be on from the second the bell rings because Rocky would come at him like the Tasmanian Devil. I think my issue is that I don’t think much of Coetzee, didn’t in real time and 45 or so years haven’t changed my mind. I think Coetzee-Marciano would be Rex Layne redux.
