Ali is really really so much better than Jack Dempsey

    "**** off you draconian arse."

And I would hope that you are really really so much better than this, MBP.

Arrogant and condescending. Dempsey didn't prove his worth and looks vastly inferior on film compared to Ali, amongst others. But Dempsey is the best because old men said so.

Let's not go that route with this thread. :good

My threads shall be officially Dempsey-free unless the subject itself is about Dempsey. Rather focus on what Dundee said about Ali, Leonard, Rodriguez and Pastrano.

I'm glad that Willie Pastrano gets mentioned in this forum PERIOD!! He was an excellent, purist type boxer with fast hands and feet and owned a beautiful jab as well as a great chin, and he had a fine boxing mind and technique....when he was focused and in shape that is. Dedication and work ethic may have been his liability..a certain dedication to the broads, lol...all that made him a colorful sidebar in boxing lore, but when he was serious, he was a thing to behold..his title winning fight vs Harold Johnson, another favorite of mine, is one of my #1 fights of all time. It's a must to see for those who dig the skillful, scientific side of boxing...15 rounds of class and skill...from BOTH men.....a shame that either man had to lose the decision, but I'm glad all the same that Pastrano finally made it to the top!

Great interview. I've just finished reading "Facing Tyson" about 15 former Tyson opponents, I always loved Dundee as a trainer and I was a little disappointed to read about how he treated Pinklon Thomas when he was in need of help. I've heard several stories about how Dundee could be a ruthless ***** in the past, this just confirmed it.

It's a pity he surrendered the title so timidly to Torres though. He should have been able to edge Torres out imo.

I love how the person behind the article took the time to specify first names for (Joe) and (Ernie), but not (George) - as though the surnames Frazier and Shavers are any less iconic than Foreman when discussing heavyweights of the 70's.

"Oh, it's a good thing the editor specified - otherwise Angelo could have been taken to mean Wilfred Frazier and Schlomo Shavers".
