I think we have people foaming at the mouth over spilled milk.

Burt discredited Muhammad Ali, manbearpig discredited Jack Dempsey.

We're quick to point out that what Burt said wasn't particularly offensive, but what exactly did manbearpig say. He said, "Ali > Dempsey up yer".

As I say, spilled milk.

 

That's what I got from what he said, too.

I'd have rather he just said "Leonard > Ali up yer".

 

But he can phrase it a lot better, though. I also thought Burt was way off in implying that Ali was some showboating primadonna, but it's not necessary to use insults to make that clear.

 

He never ****ing said all smoke and mirrors....he "a lot of ali's rep was glitz, bouncing around without throwing punches, leg skipping etc.
Leonard for his prime was the real McCoy" all of what he said is true..other then maybe Leonard being more real...ali proved to be very effective..but he did have rougher fights then people today remember...ever watch the doug jones fight genius...ali straight up lost that.

 

Sure, but I was willing to dismiss what both of them had said until we had an absolute outrage at what manpearbig had said. They both discredited two great fighters, and yet eyes were turned when the old timer did it.

 

Which isn't wrong or right. But implying Muhammad wasn't 'the real deal' is just stupidity. Older doesn't mean wiser.

 

I now understand why you've taken such a strong stance against what manpearbig has said. You're not a big fan of Muhammad ali are you?

 

i think my real mccoy..if you read that post and the ones that followed..he ment real number one..and you can make a argument leonard was better then ali....that isnt a insane argument.

 

Read between the lines in what he's saying. It's pretty clear what he's inferring.

 

Well, Burt obviously took the "up yer" personally, so why not just apologize for that and get on with it? Getting on with it was I'll do, anyhow.

i think you can put ali in the top 5 p4p of all time..and i think you should make him a favorit over dempsey..though i dont think it would be a easy fight. i also think that allot of kids have watched the highlight reels of ali..and have seen the will smith movie..and dont realize he was in tough fights even in his prime...he got knocked on his ass by cooper and was saved by the bell..he was given a gift by jones. does that make dempsey better? no..because dempsey lost fights. the point is you can point out weakness in ali...he wasnt perfect...i am not old..i am 31..but i am enough of a student of boxing to know this...but some on this thread maybe are not.
