reporting that Angulo turned down a shot at Martinez' title because he was offered 750K and wanted a million. I like this fighter but I'm disappointed he would turn down a shot at the title and make such a financial demand. The article also states that Angulo's own manager thinks he should have taken the bout.
Why do all these fighters get this entitlement attitude when they're offered what other era's fighters would wait in line toiling away for years to get?...Sickening.
thats 2 title fights Angulo has avoided now. First Dziniruk and now Martinez. Who is he waiting for, Pacquiao/Mayweather ???
No guts. No balls. Only a fruity collar, for a limited, hypejob fighter. :good You get the chance to be lineal mw champ of the world? Immediate fame and P4P relevance? "lol sry sergio i fight next time maybe?" disgraceful.
That's the problem, he wouldn't win. Martinez is simply all wrong for Angulo and he knows this. Sergio would box circles around Angulo to the point that he'd have to move up in weight.
But we're in agreement that this is no reasonable justification for turning down the fight? You get an opportunity to fight the belt, you take it.
I know fighters are not suppose to turn down title shots, but Martinez is all wrong for him. Stylistically there wouldnt be a more difficult fight than that one right there. Angulo is already pretty well known and will get a title shot against or more winnable foe. If Angulo goes on to be a good champ and he is a top dog then fight Martinez but until then steer clear. Remember that Angulo is still gonna improve he has under 20 fights and is still young. Great puncher and tough guy but he still has some stuff to sharpen up.
He's still young, so his handlers are doing their jobs a little too well... unfortunately. The only big name at 154 that I see him beating is Berto. He'll get outclassed by Cotto and outboxed by Martinez. Nor do I see him having much success against Mosely, who's renowned for punishing those non-believers who try to trade with him. Of course, age may finally catch with him, but until then I'll predict a late round TKO for Shane. In short, it looks like Angulo is waiting for the results of the Mosley/Mora fight to build up a PPV showdown between himself and Shane. He'll definitely make more than he was promissed to fight Martinez and he'd have, theoretically, an easier matchup.
I think a fight with Cotto is winnable and a natural matchup Mexican- Rican rivalry. RIght now im 50/50 on this one. I can just as easily see Cotto outboxing him as i do Angulo knocking him :dead If this fights in a year Cotto will be a year older and Angulo probably better. Or if Cintron can grab a belt a revenge win is an order.
I agree with you. Which is why I don't understand why Angulo was holding out for more $. Makes him look like that's all he cares about.
If that is true him or his people are probably feeling if their gonna take that risk against the best guy at JM and MW might is well well compensated.
