Excellent fight last night by "El Perro". He closed the show in spectacular, one punch fashion, against a game and motivated Julio, who found some success in spots with his stick-and-move strategy. But Angulo cut off the ring effectively and I thought that he made some critical body attack adjustments in the middle-to-late rounds that slowed Julio down just enough to set up the fight-ending punch. Overall, I was impressed at the steady improvement the Mexican has been making since his clear loss to Cintron. But now that we have the benefit of analyzing a common opponent and knowing that Kirkland perhaps will be returning to the ring shortly, Angulo v. Kirkland is one of the fights I'm most eager to see get made, hopefully by year's end. Before Kirkland was sentenced and Angulo lost to Cintron, I believe the consensus from fans, trainers, and writers was that it was a toss-up. I think many also felt that such a potentially savage fight could be detrimental to their young respective careers. If Kirkland does indeed return in August or September and picks up right where he left off, an end of the year clash with Angulo for the interim (or maybe it'll be vacant by that time) WBO belt should be in order. I liked Angulo before Kirkland went to the can and I still like him now to win. The loss to Cintron, I believe, has had a positive effect on "El Perro"; he's learned to cut off the ring much more effectively in dealing with movers, which I believe Kirkland will resort to being because I don't see him being able to back up Angulo for the entire fight. Bottom line, for me, is that the man who gets backed-up, loses.
Kirkland needs to get a warm up or two and get back to his training regimen. I see him knocking Angulo out. should be a fantastic fight though ig it ever happens
I think it'll be mighty hard making Kirkland take a step backwards. The inactivity may have ruined him, but hey.. he's strong as an ox.
man, that fight wouldve been an instant classic. it would be one of those fights where there would be no real winner because both fighters gave it their all. but i hope kirklands layoff doesnt hurt him, hopefully he can come back stronger and most importantly SMARTER.
kirkland wont be back in the ring untill august at the earliest he'll hav a fight or 3 to shed some ring rust and probably by early next year he'll be fighting for some sort of alphabet strap. but even by then a fight with angulo wont be happening promoters these days are assholes who will try to milk it as much as they can so they'll probably try to build the fight up just like juanma/gamboa but by that time angulo may hav lost or moved up in weight who knows he could be moving up soon looks like hes really struggling at the moment
Am I missing something? Is there any recent pic's of Kirkland anywhere.... (Ain't he still dropping the soap) He will have to start from scratch.
Doesn't Kirkland weigh like 220 now. I love this guy but I'm worried the window is closing quickly for him.
Same thing I was thinking. I love both fighters but I dont know if this fight will actually happen. The kirkland that beat Julio can beat the ANgulo of last night but who knows if we will ever get to see that kirkland again....Do you all remember post jail Tyson? A real fight that should happen is Margarito Vs Angulo.
kirkland will be fine. he will come back and work hard. we all make mistakes. im sure he will redeem himself
Kirkland will probably move to MW. I would like to see the fight latter when both fighter have established them selfs. A fight that I want to see from some time and I'm sure it's going to become an instant classic is Angulo-Williams at 154. Something tells me that Angulo can squash this spider
Supposedly Kirkland packed on alot of pounds in the big house. The biggest factor in how he fares after incarceration is whether he hooks back up with Ann Wolfe. Her training methods seemed to be a perfect fit for him and they shared the same mentality(all out dog eat dog killer mentality) and she pissed him off enough in training where he wanted to take it out in the ring. Is she willing to take him back in after he ****ed up big time? Does he still have the desire to endure her tortuous and unorthodox training regimes if they do reunite? If he is forced to get another trainer, will they build around his aggressive style or try to retool him as more of a paced technical boxer? Can anyone keep his ass far far away from firearms or anything else that could get him sent back to the big house? All questions that beg to be answered.
