Angulo looked brutal against a sub-par opponent last weekend. Yorgey wasn't ready for Angulo, but Angulo wasn't ready for Cintron when they fought either. What people fail to mention is that Angulo had HALF the amount of professional bouts as Cintron at the time they fought. Experience played a huge role. Give Angulo some experience and that rematch will be interesting. He did alot better against Cintron, than Cintron did against Margarito and that's for sure
Well, damn, I never looked at it from that perspective. But the problem is: Angulo was called the next Margarito, and getting beat by a Margarito leftover who was supposed to lose just as bad but go out on the stretcher this time is a perspective much closer to reality. But hey, Angulo is what he is, given the right opponents he can pick up a legit title and deliver exciting fights. I like him. Too damn bad James Kirkland relocated his training camp, we'd be FIRED UP for that fight by now...
I remember Angulo could've fought Ouma and Shaw instead choose Cosme Rivera instead. To me that indicates Shaw doesn't have the most confidence in Angulo. For only 17 fights he doesn't have any really big wins on his record to deserve the hype he gets. I thinked they picked Cintron based off the Margarito fights. It looks like he could be outboxed by any of the current title holders. A good fight for Angulo would be a Miguel Torres or Saul Roman. A couple of rugged guys who would go to war with him. I don't think Mayorga has it in him any more, especially at 154.
Very true, but when Angulo has double the fights under his belt, he should have a better chance than he currently does. Shaw may be hesitant, cause Angulo's buzz is bigger than his experience. He needs to put in work and he will be better off. Mexican fighters usually fight 40 tomato cans before they even reach the American circuit. He has a huge buzz on HBO and in general, but little experience. Hopefully he learns from the Cintron loss
Generally (Marco Antonio Barrera is an exception) those Mexicans you're referring to that fight a large number of 'cans' are those that have little-to-no amateur experience (JCC, JCC Jr., Lupe Pintor, Carlos Zarate, Antonio Margarito, Jorge Paez, the list goes on) whereas Angulo was an Olympian with a fairly strong amateur background.
Angulo will do better this time around against Cintron. Cintron has great skills, but "El Perro" will catch him in the late rounds. Cintron was landing some nice shots on Angulo but they didn't look to bother him like the shots Angulo was landing on him. You could see Kermit grimissing in pain when Alfredo would land.
Maybe better but a hard fight no matter what. Marg does everything Angulo does better. Cintron was in both fights and was really dishing some **** out . Marg just had a granite chin and was like a train during that time period. Angulo doesn't cut off the ring too well and I don't think he's quite as accurate. He's stiil green though and i don't think his team thought Cintron had anything left after Martinez. In a few more years if he improves on what he's got.
Thanks Jay. I like Angulo, I enjoy watching him fight and I think he has a lot of potential. As you say, he's like a Margarito-clone - who I also enjoyed watching fight until the controversy with his gloves. I'm not sure how credible the tale of his sickness is against Cintron, but he certainly didn't look himself. Especially considering Cintron's fight against Martinez where he looked plain awful, and was 'technically' knocked out except for that weirdness with the complaining about the non-existent headbutt.
