Angulo always has a shot against Kirkland because of his fight ending power in exchanges. I'd love to see a rematch. That brawl last night was epic.

  2. He did and he didn't take them well at all. If Angulo had landed 4 or 5 more of those combinations, the fight would've been stopped. Angulo could have worked the body more methodically, been a bit more patient. Honestly, Angulo lost the fight more than Kirkland won it if u know what I mean. That said, Kirkland showed a lot of heart and showed he has what it takes to compete at the elite level despite his less than ideal chin. I respect Kirkland a lot as a fighter. He's a warrior. A goddamn warrior.

I'm not going to say Angulo would win the rematch, but I would give him a very good chance in a rematch.

You saw a guy (Angulo) who apparently has never been down as an amateur or a pro punch himself out against an opponent who was set up as a sacrificial lamb for him.

Kirkland was regarded as a glass-jawed fraud coming into this bout, and the fight location and the set-up was all done in a way to get Angulo over with the larger public.

Kirkland didn't get the script, and Angulo got a very hard lesson in the ring.

That said, as long as Angulo can mentally get over what happened, not only do I think he can be fine in his career, I think he will be better than ever because now he will have learned that he can't punch himself out and that he can be dropped. Two things he doesn't seem to have ever experienced previously.

Give Kirkland his respect here. He got off the canvas and could have easily folded up in the first round. Props to him and his team for the performance. You have to feel good for him.

One other quick thought: Angulo does throw some straight shots, but he also throws some wide, winging ones as well. I think he is the real deal, but he's not a perfect fighter and probably never will be. Still, if he can recover from this loss, I think his future is very, very bright. Brighter than Kirkland's? Who knows. We need to see how they both do from this point forward.

As long as Angulo can get a few wins in a row on his ledger, I don't see why a rematch would not be made. If you're Team Kirkland, why wouldn't you make it? You pounded the guy.

When floyd books the May 5th date he should ask GBP to get Kirland v Angulo II on the undercard would be awesome maybe even have all Mexican undercard fights like canelo vs JCC Jr and stuff idk

    Canelo v JCC Jr
    Anuglo v Kirkland
    Pacquiao v Mayweather

that would be awesome especially if we could also get cotto v williams in their.

I think im a little to optimistic lol

I don't think so. I think Angulo is one of the Margarito-esque guys that has to be matched carefully. Put him in there with another brawler and watch the fireworks. Put him in there with someone above his skill level and you'll get what you got last night. Not to mention the Cintron fight.

I was telling someone last night (before the fight) that Angulo is like a better version of Margarito. He has more natural power than Margarito does, I think. But I think you make a good comparison.

Thanks but I don't think I'd call Angulo better than Margarito. You've got to remember that you only saw Margarito whiffing punches and leading with his face against elite opposition. Against someone with like Angulo, Margarito would play the role of the boxer and land his punches while offering movement. You would also see him pick off punches with his goves. He would not, however, move his head.:blood Yeah. Sounds like bull****. Watch ESPN Classic. You'll see. Margarito was in his day a skilled brawler against midlevel opposition. At the elite level, his rudimentary boxing skills wouldn't get him anywhere. So he became a face-first plodder that whiffed a lot of punches but wore his opponent out. But remember, it was only at the elite level that most boxing fans have seen Margarito. Which is why this post is gonna get **** all over.

When the rematch happens, and Angulo wins by ko in 3 rounds, let us know. Angulo landed a punch Kirkland couldn't see. Kirkland got up. Angulo blowing his wad is his own fault. After yesterday, I dont think angulo could win a rematch.

All that sounds good, but the better man won the fight. No matter how much you try to discredit Kirkland and make excuses for Angulo. Angulo still got the **** whipped out of him. So until a second fight is made Kirkland is the better man between the two.

Actually, while the fight was exciting, I thought both fighters looked pretty basic- though Angulo more so. Kirkland could at least throw a jab and come forward, but he sure would be in trouble against someone with solid fundamentals and footwork. El Perro needs to learn a lot of those fundamentals so he can mix it up a bit more instead of just looking for the big shot all the time (and slapping with half his punches). First time I've seen either guy, mind, I could be wrong.
