Angulo hurt Kirkland, but I noticed that Kirkland had his witts about him that whole 1st round.

As Angulo was letting go his hands nonstop after he dropped Kirkland, I had the feeling Angulo was going to punch himself out.

The ammount of energy Angulo expended in that first round, I'd equate it to a track and field runner running a 400 meter sprint all out, taking a one minute rest period and then going out and running a mile against a miler thats in his same class thats fresh

Kind of hard to envision Angulo coming back anytime soon against Kirkland however. Once a fighter pretty much has his way with you, no matter the circumstances and then stops you, he's got a mental edge over you that difficult to dismiss.

  2. Not to mention the fact that he expended that energy when he wasnt fired up. He was prolly still cold. A boxer usually needs 2 or 3 rounds to really get going.

if youve been training for 6-8 weeks you shouldnt be gassed out after 2 minutes, simple, kirkland destroyed angulo, angulo was more of a hype job than kirkland, kirkland beats him every day of the week!

the difference was, JK jumped right up and wasn't badly hurt...Perro spent the next five rounds mobbling on jelly legs and took a vicious beating...he's likely damaged goods..

If he does, he sucks and bad. Margarito has been in more wars and bigger punchers than Kirkland and he was going strong until about two years ago. For whatever reason, Angulo looked horrible Saturday night. Him running out of steam (with him being a Nacho Bernstein fighter) is simply inexcusable.

I don't know about Angulo beating Kirkland in a rematch, I mean sure he'll always have that punchers chance. But after all those brutal shots and the mental edge James has, it's going to be tough.

No excuses, all respect and credit to Kirkland!!! He went into EL Perros backyard as the underdog and got up in the first round to stop Angulo, and stopped him hard!!! I picked Angulo to KO James, and just couldn't believe he was punching himself out in the first before my eyes. What the hell is Angulo doing with Bernstein? Kirkland did a great job of staying focused.

Before the first KD, Kirkland was in Angulo's ass, Angulo was too slow and was being backed up, Kirkland just has his number.

I think there's a central debate here that doesn't have an easy answer and may not be resolved any time soon...maybe not until they rematch, if and when...

How much of the blame can be placed on Angulo being poorly prepared (whether that means blaming Nacho for not giving undivided attention, blaming Angulo for thinking he'd make easy work of Kirkland, or whatever) and how much on Angulo over-expending in the first two minutes?

A lot of people seem to be insisting declaratively that it was one or the other, when there's a strong possibility it was both factors. (but the question is, to what degree of each?)

  14. Angulo sucks. El perro is no good. Look at his record on boxrec. I was shocked when I saw it, the first decent guy on his ledger was Cintron, other than that he spent his career ko'ing the Henry Yorgey's of the world. Joel Julio isn't even a 154 pounder and Angulo was taxed by him. If Kirkland hadn't gottten overaggressive that first-round knock down doesn't happen. Only Angulo's ability to take a punch and his pride allowed him to make it to round 6. Everyone who bet on Kirkland at 3-1, got a good deal in retrospect.
