I didn't see the fight, so I have no problems with people keeping him in the Top 10 or only having him in the top 15. Calderon is at a disadvantage at 108, and the fighter he fought last night is a former champion. So some credit is certainly due. Cazares isn't a pushover either.....there is just not alot to go on at 105-108. Divisions should be eliminated IMO.

Yeah but people are putting him in over, not to say 'better fighters', just more accomplished fighters. Calderon's competition is very soft overall, with a few good ones here and there, I think everyone will agree with that.

Mijares, Guzman and even Nate Campbell can be ranked over him...

Cazares is the same level Luis Collazo is, just in a power punching style, we saw how easily Mosely handled Collazo you know.

Calderon outclassed Cazares for 7 rounds beautifully, then got KD'd, then survived until the end and honestly I thought the fight was a draw.

And again, nothing against Calderon, I've been following him longer than most guys on here who are pimping him now have, as you know I prefer a skilled boxer over slop.

I think we are underrating chavez comp now. Hector Camacho is top 80-110 for me, and meldrick taylor-edwin rosario are both in my top 150.

However this still doesnt change the fact that carlos ortiz beat 6 hall of famers and alexis arguello beat better fighters too.

Alexis argeullo has wins over legit lightwieghts like jim watt and ray mancini. He beat chacon and escalara at 130 and they are better than anyone chavez beat at that weight. At featherweight he beat the likes of legra and olivares. The only flaw is that he had a few offnights against ramirez and fernandez. Still, he beat bettere comp overall than chavez did too.

Camacho is more potential than substance IMO. Taylor and Rosario are good fighter, but not top notch, and certainly not ATG. Taylor COULD have been, probably should have been.

IF you absolutely have to beat an ATG to be an ATG how can there be an ATG in the first place????

Yeah you don't have to beat an ATG to be an ATG. Beating a consistent level of good fighters over a long period of time will do the trick. It did for Chavez.

As for his comp, I think you could argue Taylor and Camacho deserve to be somewhere around the top 120-160 mark all time, but they are not top 100 all time.

In terms of pure boxing skill, I think he's a bit overrated. Not many men exist weighing 105-108lb thus naturally his competition pool isn't too large. Watching him on tape, guys like BHop, JMM, PBF easily display better boxing skills.

My point exactly. The talent pool in those division's is extremely thin, but in terms of boxing skill, he's in the top 5 as far as pure boxer's go in the sport.

Calderon has been underrated/unappreciated by some during his best physical years. Superb boxer and well deserving of attention and big pay days at this point.

I never get too carried away with P4P talk but this guy has been one of the top performers. If he had a huge punch? It would be truly scary. The fact he doesnt doesnt give him the casual fan appeal.

Its near the end and a loss might happen but Calderon has taken all comers and the W over a good bit bigger Cazares goes a long way in my book.

And I would argue a counterpoint, if I ever actually said that. But I didn't.

Would you rate him higher than Spinks? I cant rate him higher than:

    PBF
    JMM
    BHop
    Guzman
    Spinks

And the following guys arent exactly inferior either in terms of pure boxing ability:

    Raheem
    Mijares
    MAB
    Calzaghe
    Wlad

Thats just a few top of my head. On tape, Calderon has shown nothing spectacular, he can dance around but so can Spinks. Being able to dance around and deliver spectacular combinations off the front foot + show amazing offense is great boxing ability, all top 5 up there has shown that.

I was reading on HBO.com bio on miguel cotto that Cotto and Calderon fought in the amateurs and Calderon beat him.....

"I fought with Ivan Calderon when I was amateur, 100 pounds. [note: Calderon is the WBO mini--flyweight world champion] He beat me three to two. After that, we make the team of Puerto Rico to represent Puerto Rico in international competition. We were both in the Olympics in 2000. He's still at 105 pounds. He's, if not the best, one of my best friends."...

Ivan Calderon is a boxing god

Really hard to see that. But Cotto is one of those fighters that has really come a long way with style much more suited to pro too. God, was Cotto a 16yr old weighing 100lb?

I don't know man but, Cotto was fast as hell when he was younger. Even if he was small Cotto was a technical punching genius I would love to see footage of that fight. I mean the Cotto that fought in his early days at 140lbs is nothing like the Cotto that fights today at 147lbs. He has bulked up, and to me has slowed down..He was way faster and sharper at 140lbs. I wonder if he was even quicker when Calderon faced him, Who knows. If this fight was in their mid to late teens, it would have been amazing to see.
