Duddy's foe has been announced for the Pac\Clottey undercard and I'm not convinced. Bum Killer Duddy might as well give Juan Astorga a rematch. The Top Rank brass have dug deep into Nuevo Leon to find this guy. In his last fight Bum Killer Duddys opponent defended his Mexico Light Middleweight title with a 12 round decision over a fighter with a record of 13-16-4 according to boxrec. Maybe Bob Arum could save some money by just having Duddy enter the ring with the bagpipes then jump rope and do some pad work while the Irish flags ripple through the crowd.
Well, if he sucks that bad, you know that he'll never be good enough to hold a legit title belt, or if he does win one, he cant defend it and keep it for long. So, what if he's overrated and he's not that good? A lot of his fans want to watch him fight, maybe mostly are low level opposition, he beats them, and everybody goes home happy. But you can be satisfied with the fact that you know better than all those "uneductaed" fans and he'll never amount to anything great.
It seems alot of his fans know whats up and dont care. I had many laughs at the Garden a few weeks ago with fans of his about the quality of his opposition
It's entertainment. If they had fun watching a mismatch, live, it will be money well spent, as far as they are concerned. Who cares, really.
Let the guy fight. Duddy isnt champion material, never was, never will be Regardless, he puts on good fights, he has a following, and he is a great fighter to his fans. The Irish love him and will always turn out to watch him. His handlers dont have any title illusions. He is a money maker because of his heritage and the kid obviously loves to fight, let him fight. Its not as if he is talking himself up. He's accomplished a lot more as a boxer than most fighters ever will, he found a niche, and he has done right by the sport
I really cannot understand the misconception that Duddy is a "hype job" and "overrated". What boxing fans on here say he is a top quality fighter? That's right, none. He has an entertaining style and was shown how limited he is against Lyell. People somehow think the words "popular" and "talented" are the same thing. He is what he is, a tough brawler with a good chin who draws a crowd. If he fights any of the champions he will lose. Everybody knows this so what is the point of the thread?
so people aren't caught off guard when they hear Duddy's name as a punch line in a Jay Leno Tonight Show monologue
Translation: I can't retort with a decent answer so I make a joke to try divert the fact the my thread was simply a bitter rambling.
