Another episode of Chin Talk. Glass Jaw weekend roundup.

Bellew has a glass jaw, luckily for him he was fighting a light puncher who wasn't throwing anything (and he still looked tentative and generally terrible). If he fights Huck, the Hernandez/Ofolabi winner, or any other decent Cruiserweight for that matter, we will defiantly see a highlight reel KO of some shattered glass.

 

A lot of glass jaws were exposed this weekend, or shattered again.

Algieri's fragile mandible is the most notable, as his mandibular weakness was perhaps not as well known as some of the others who had their chins shattered.

Michael Sprott, although his fragile mandible had been shattered multiple times, again had it exposed this weekend, in brutal fashion. Glass jawed fighters like Sprott are a credit to the sport as they help provide the definitive endings we boxing fans love!

 

How did Algieri survive if he has a glass jaw out of interest, only seemed hurt once to me? Plus he recovered fine.

There are different degrees of mandibular weakness. Some fighters, like Hasim Rahman, for example, get knocked SO unconscious they go right the hell outa the ring. Others, like Algieri, get bounced up and down off the canvas like a basketball.

But both do not take a good punch - like say, George Chuvalo, or Oliver McCall, for example.

 

Glass jaws exist in boxing, and based on last night's fight, it looks like Algieri has one. :nod

 

Algieri's jaw is pure ****ing glass and everyone knows it.

 

Chris Algieri showed mandibular frailty, but I wouldn't go so far as to call him glass-jawed. He went the full 12 rounds without getting knocked out, and Pacquiao is a credible chinchecker.
