You're wrong, there is a difference between quitting and knowing when its time to cash it in. Cotto knew he was done, his body language showed it and he wanted no more. To his credit he did try to fire back. You win some you lose some.
I just rewatched the fight. Cotto did take the 2nd knee before his corner threw in the towel. So yes he did quit on his own. Cotto should have kept going.
Man his face was swollen and a bloody mess. Sometimes your brain actually kicks in at some point and supresses that warrior mentality. That was human instinct and survival skills Cotto demonstrated. Would you let a bear walk up and maul you? He knew he was done and gave it his all.
