I have always disliked Floyd for his ability to take the path of absolutely least resistance and still preach his greatness, particularly to the uneducated public - i.e. the ones who make him the big PPV purses. However, after his fight with SSM, I have to give him his dues. He took a couple of big shots and looked like Amir Khan for about 3 seconds but then he surprised me by miraculously reviving himself, turning the fight around and taking it to SSM, who looked like at times as if he could receive his first KO loss. Admittedly, that was NOT a great SSM: He looked gassed at times (over training post-Berto), I don't remember seeing his vaunted left hook but instead witnessed plenty of his quivering pre-jab taunts. But this was all because Floyd changed the fight in an instant. I would love to see Floyd in a really close fight, to work out how good he really is in the context of boxing history, but if this is a weak era of boxing and he is truly great, that will never happen. I honestly can't think of a name to truly challenge him, but here are some options: Pac: has speed and power but clearly not enough to put Floyd away for the count - his only real chance as I can not see him ouboxing Floyd Williams: I am sure this lanky beast would relish the chance to come down to 147 but his scrawny body doesn't have the leverage or speed to put Floyd away. Margarito: would be made to look like a fool for 12 rounds Pavlik: hasn't got the skills or variety but his size might be a little too much for Floyd, but it is definitely a possibilty - consider RJJ going up to beat Ruiz Martinez: Not sure if this guy is skilled and strong enough to keep Floyd on the backfoot Bradley: Is possibly the only guy with a real chance, as we may not have seen the best of him. Likely outcome is he gets outboxed by 6 rounds (i.e. 9-3) To summarise, Floyd did better than I thought and deserves his dues, but the Pac Floyd fight must be made for the history of boxing's sake. I know it is not the rules but Floyd just beat SSM and has proved he is not scared of Pac, so I think Pac should bend and take the tests. After that, who knows?
Yes, he can still be tested. Pacquiao is the obvious one. I'm probably in the minority but I always thought Floyd could beat Williams - it would still be a big test though.
PAC is good , but he cannt knock Floyd out. No way is he outboxing Floyd. his only chance is giving him a few in the corner late on and the ref awarding a TKO .
I'm with you, i never thought williams provides that stern a test for mayweather, thats not really changed. Pacquaio certainly provides the biggest test for floyd. Also martinez would be a challenge
Getting Floyd in the corner will be the worst thing for Pac. Pac needs the ring to use his movement and punch from unorthodox angles. If he get Mayweather in a corner, Mayweather will simply use his defense to avoid shots and counter effectively, as the punches will be coming from only one direction, stifling Pacquiao's momentum.
when you get cornered by PAC you will be in trouble baby specially in the late rounds :rofl:rofl:rofl PAC is simply dangerous when he was on attacked mode :good
