This thread is incomplete. If you want a proper GGG thread you'll have to ask gaymaster to have a go at GGG. Oh, who am I kidding, you don't have to ask, he'll come anyway
Golovkin had just been refused a fight with Ward, and Mayweather had just beaten Alvarez unifying his WBA and WBC L MW titles. GGG was looking for a fight with a name( LMAO , 3 yrs later, same shiit), and Floyd was looking like he was unbeatable having beaten 2 of 3 best LMWs in his last 3 fights. GGG was STILL being ducked by Sturm, STILL being ducked by Martinez, and also being ducked by Quillen at that time. So he called out Mayweather, adding to the call out list, ANY fighter from 154 to 168, considering it appeared that Froch and JCCJr were also kingpins at or near his weight, and making a fight with Mayweather, Froch, or Chavez Jr would be just what he needed to get his name into the American mainstream.:good
As for the difference between Floyd and Canelo, it's definitely NOT the 1 lb difference on Friday afternoon. Its a difference of about 5 million bucks for that extra lb, 13-15 million vs Floyd in 2013, or 7-10 million vs Canelo in 2016. It's also the difference of leveling the playing field. Floyd, in spite of what his dikkriders say, likely weighs in the neighborhood of 155-160 come fight-time when weighing 147 on Friday afternoon. If he only had to boil down to 154, he'd likely weigh in the neighborhood of 158-162. Whereas 26 year old Canelo, weighing 155 on Friday afternoon, puts back on about 16-20 lbs, so, between 171-175. GGG, when weighing 159-160 on Friday, puts back on 7-13 lbs depending on his camp shape, looking at his opponent from his 167-173lb frame. Should he boil down to 154/155, he'd likely come in, and this is a guess based off his typical rehydration #s, would come in around 162-167. Not saying he NEEDS those lbs to keep Canelo or Floyd honest, his jab alone has enough juice to make Canelo abandon any bullying tactics, and force him to fight either off the back foot, or playing huggy bear to survive as did Murray. VS Floyd though, the loss of speed and endurance taking off those 6 extra lbs, could be critical in maintaining proper distance to land the jab, and keep a steady offensive flow. As for fighting Canelo at 155.....maybe Canelo's hoping the weight might affect his punch resistance. :think
