All of us who knew Frankie thought this was going to happen as he fought so many fights toward the end where he just wasn't in anything resembling shape. He'd come out look good for a round or 2 and be gone. Me and another guy who fought at jr. middleweight were playing darts with Frankie in a club one night and the cops showed up and when we turned around Frankie had ran out the back, they weren't even looking for him. This was after the 2nd Chavez fight and when he later won a title. He needed much better management but it's hard to protect someone from them selves.

You have to respect Frankie Randall; he was a honest to God professional fighter. He was good at every aspect of his trade. I was a huge Chavez fan and always looked nervously at Randall, just a feeling that he might be the guy to upset the apple cart. When Primo Ramos caught him with a shot and stopped him in 2, I thought that he was finished but he obviously had a lot more to do.
Sad news about his condition. I wish him nothing but the best.

Sadly this disease proves otherwise, memories are no more for the victim...

Yep that was Randalls coming out party. Televised on NBC. He hadnt fought anyone remotely close to the top 10. and jumped right up to fight Rosario. Though he lost was obvious Frankie was a legitimate contender at that moment.

Frankie The Surgeon Randall was a champion with class, he performed the impossible at that time, beating the great Julio Caesar Chavez for the title and handing Chavez his first loss, even decking him. I remember his wars with Juan Martin Coggi. My prayers are with you and your family champ.

Very sad to see that Randall is in such poor health in retirement. Terrific fighter and by all accounts (including someone I've spoken to who met him in person a few times) a top guy and very good company, too. Certainly had a tough road to the top of the sport, even if part of that was his own fault. I love the Rosario fight, his masterclass against Chavez (who he beat in their first rematch too, if we're being honest) and also the first fight against Coggi in particular.

Wishing him and his family all the best.

As a fan of boxing, it saddens me to look at record of Frankie and see in last 16 fights of his boxing career that he lost 13 of them

So many of the greats from our sport have been struck down with the hideous illness of dementia, sadly Frankie is one of them, punches to the head sure are not good for the brain cells, some are fortunate and do not appear affected others regrettbly are.

Sad to see a great like Frankie succumb to dementia, hoping he is at least getting the best care available.

A real shame. I hope all the casual idiots stop talking about Tyson fighting again.
