Finally another action packed weekend of boxing. PW-Lara Rios-Antillon Cintron-Molina Ramos-Shimoda Here is my breakdown of the fights: PW-Lara The defense of PW has always been his biggest weakness. At 147 where he dwarfed his opponents he really didnt need defense as much but at 154 and 160 where his opponents are just as big as he is and hit harder then its a big problem. It only took one fight at 160 against Martinez to crack his chin. And im not talking about the rematch. I believe it was cracked during the first fight. PW took big shot after big shot and amazingly stayed up. Lara looked lethargic in his fight with Molina but he is still the same highly skilled fighter who i think will win a title eventually and possibly rule 154, if he learns how to fight on the inside. The styles are perfect here. A guy who uses range well and times his opponents but also has no inside game which is PW strength. The big difference here to me is I think PW chin is cracked and when a guy with no defense is facing a guy with legit power and good timing. Well its lights out. Expect PW to get KO every time he steps up. oh yea i think Lara hits the canvas early on due to his lack of inside game. Lara KO 7 Rios-Antillon Can you say FOTY!? It took a sneaky uppercut to knock Antillon out from Acosta. There is nothing sneaky about Rios. Antillon knows Rios will be coming forward and throwing punches from every possible angle. Antillon has one main weapon here that might be Rios kryptonite. His body punching. Rios has been down twice before from body shots and also Acosta hit Rios with everything upstairs and nothing happened but as soon as he unloaded to his body we saw Rios flinch and back up. Antillon has a legit chance if he catches Rios in the middle of his combinations with left hooks to the body. I think Rios cutting so much weight to make 135 makes his body weaker. I think if Antillon protects himself early and goes after the body he can pull the upset. Antillon and Rios both hurt during the fight and we have a controversial fight with a big demand for a rematch. Hmm Rios SD Cintron-Molina Cintron is just the much better fighter. however a guy like Molina can grind him down. The skill level gap is big and so is the mental strength gap. Pretty even fight based on that but expect Cintron to outbox Molina. Cintron UD Ramos-Shimoda I have no idea. I dont recall ever watching either fight and from their records it doesnt look like they carry big power. More than likely a Decisions to either. anyone wish to jump in and fill me in??? I have nothing to do this weekend. Finally... So i will be watching soccer and boxing all day and night. oh yea and drinking.
Haha. I wonder what the odds are on the ringside equipment???? I think if Cintron wins we should get to watch a PW rematch. Both guys need a big win desperately and that fight was just starting to heat up.
Unfortunately I wont eb able to watch any of the fights but this is my prediction: willaims-rios-cintron-shimoda
On a serious note, thanks for posting this -- I didn't realize there were so many solid fights on this weekend. The first three all have interesting subplots and the potential for some good action.
This is a good week, but I can't comment on Antillion or Rios because I haven't seen enough of them to make a decision; however, based on what I've seen of Lara and Paul Williams, I can make a prediction. Lara, like many other Cubans is an excellent boxer, but he prefers to keep his opponents outside. Considering both he and Williams are southpaws, if Lara decides to box Williams from the outside, he will lose. If he manages to get inside on Williams and throws the short powerful combinations that Martinez threw in the second fight and should have thrown in the first fight he will win, possibly even by KO. I think Lara will fight on the outside, and while he is very skilled, he's smaller and doesn't have the experience to get past Williams' reach and activity. He'll fight the wrong fight, similiar to what Martinez did the first time, and he'll neglect to take chances and take the fight inside. This plays to Williams advantage in my opinion, and I think he controls the fight on the outside, and Lara has no answer for his attack. I'm going to go with Williams UD.
What channel is Bute fighting on?? I like watching him throw that body uppercut.... Im guessing he is fighting a nobody?
Theres no way in hell lara beats williams, williams got cracked with a great punch by sergio but if they were to fight for a third time I would go with paul all day...
Williams vs Lara: I think Williams will win by close, possibly controversial decision in a very boring and cagey affair. Williams, fresh off a brutal KO loss, will IMO fight tentatively and cautiously, like he did early on against Cintron. Lara already fights like that anyway, and I don't think those styles will mesh well at all. I can see a very dull fight, with neither throwing much and both landing even less. Williams will throw a little bit more, and will end up getting the decision. Paul Williams SD Rios vs Antillon I'm picking Rios by KO in the later rounds. I believe he'll simply wear down Antillon and stop him. I think Acosta, who Rios stopped, is a better fighter than Antillon, and arguably more durable. Acosta also had better movement and defense, and he still got broken down in the end. Antillon is no weak puncher, but he doesn't have the fire power to keep Rios off him, and he doesn't have the boxing ability to hit Rios, then avoid his punches. Rios will cut him off, batter him with hard shots, until Antillon finally crumbles and the fight is stopped. Brandon Rios TKO Cintron vs Molina Kermit by UD. It's a 10 round fight, and I expect Cintron to just be more active than Molina, and do enough to take a comfortable decision. There won't be much to this one IMO, just a standard decision win for Cintron where he outlands Molina in most of the rounds. Kermit Cintron UD Ramos vs Shimoda I have a feeling Ramos will win by close decision. Shimoda is nothing special, he won his title against Ryol Li Lee, who himself was a pretty average fighter, and I don't think Shimoda is really top class. Ramos himself is very unproven, has no real wins of note (although a UD over Alejandro Perez looks good now), and has looked no more than impressive against his current opposition. I think his activity, speed, and hometown standing will help him get the decision over Shimoda. I can either see Ramos winning this clearly (wide) or controversially, and my pick is a very close win for Rico. Rico Ramos SD
They are showing highlights on the Rios/Antillon telecast that evening. I don't know where to watch the fight live; I imagine it will be online somewhere. Yea he is fighting Mendy in Romania. :bart
MAN cintron dont deserve to evwen be talked about..let alone fight. he jumped out the ring...disgracing all ricans and latinos as a whole.... molina beats his ass till he quits!
I agree with the poster above that said Lara vs Williams has strong potential to be void of excitement. If there is anyexcitement though, it will likely come from Williams.
