Well, the miniature tournament kicks off at 9pm EST with Darchinyan vs. Mares. Perez vs. Agbeko follows immediately.

Meanwhile, HBO will start their light welterweight double header at 9:30pm EST with Ortiz vs. Peterson to support the main event of Khan vs. Maidana.

All four fights are very appealing, for different reasons. All four could be highly competitive. All four carry major implications in their divisions (and certainly have mouth-watering short-term ramifications regarding match-ups between fellow winners on the same bill).

You could really make an argument either way for which card is more "can't-miss", and easily justify watching either one live over the other.

For me, it's a matter of knowing that I simply won't be able to sit there and twiddle my thumbs for half an hour after nine o clock, knowing that there's possible FOTY action going on. I will be tuning in to Showtime live...and once tuned in, I will not want to be tuning out. If it were HBO starting thirty minutes earlier, then it's very possible I'd instead be opting to watch light welterweights in real time and catching up on bantamweights on DVR.

So my choice is made. What's yours?

I'll watch Showtime on the flatscreen until the HBO broadcasts begins. Then I'll turn the television to HBO and have the Showtime card going on my laptop.

If it's possible to watch Khan v Maidana and Mares v Darchinyan that's what I'll do. I'm nowhere near as excited for the other two.

Mares v Darch could be a F.O.T.Y candidate and Khan is either gonna be knocked out or utterly destroy Maidana in a one sided fight. Both really exciting but in different ways.

I'll watch HBO while I record Showtime, then watch Showtime immediately afterward.

I canceled my Showtime three months ago.... :(

I have no other choice but HBO. If I still did have Showtime I would be in the same predicament as some of you. I would probably begin with Showtime and depending how the fight was going...leave it or if it is not going in exciting fashion turn it to HBO.

Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, this is how it will pan out for me.

    So showtime starts at 9.

    9 - Perez vs Kong
    9:40 - Darchinyan vs Mares

The Ortiz vs Peterson will have to be the one that gets skipped,

But then as soon as Khan vs Maidana starts, will have to switch over to that, HOPEFULLY Darch/Mares will be over by then.

Actually, hopefully showtime will play the Darchinyan fight first, because the two fights I want to see the most out of this excellent night is that one and Khan Maidana. If I can see those two I will be a happy man.

Thank god for dvr! I'll watch Showtime first since it starts first and than hbo right afterwards. Just hope nothing exciting happens because my friends will start texting me and might ruin it for me on HBO.

HBO card is more attracting to the average fan but honestly I can almost guarantee that the showtime card will be a barn burner. Mares Vs Darch will be a war from beginning to end and Perez will be even more relentless this time

Holy ****, is this lopsided for HBO!

Don't get me wrong...Ortiz-Peterson is a treat for the purist and Khan-Maidana has obviously had a lot of hype and could very easily live up to it - but...do you guys just not realize how good Showtime's product is probably going to be? :huh

Of course, a couple of quick KO's would solve everybody's problems. :deal

    Let's review here.

    Perez-Agbeko I: FOTY candidate.
    [dm]xb08ib[/dm]
    [dm]xb08yc[/dm]

    Perez-Mares I: FOTY candidate.

    [yt]M_WKmrOjXtU[/yt]
    [yt]dSWG2OpD1iQ[/yt]
    [yt]3IREq7gSybY[/yt]
    [yt]vJg-udQNLHM[/yt]

(PS - if you have the compatibility issue where non-HD videos on Youtube like the ones above show up green-tinged and unbearably blurry, it can be easily fixed: right click anywhere in the video and select "Settings" from the flash menu, then un-check "enable accelerated hardware" :good)

Vic Darchinyan: hardly ever in a boring fight, and has been in two good 12-rounders already this year.
    [yt]nYUPnp2-riI[/yt]
    [yt]Dg9xa10WGSg[/yt]

Maidana-Ortiz: top ten of 2009, but not really a top FOTY candidate.

Maidana's last couple of fights have been fun but still not top-shelf.

Bradley-Peterson: good fight, but again not close to a FOTY candidate.

    Khan-Malignaggi: hardly thrilling.

    Ortiz-Campbell: see above.

How does everyone prioritize the light welterweights over the bantamweights here?

I'll be watching Showtime live and then HBO after.

The Showtime fights are pick 'em fights. I expect Khan to dominate Maidana and while I do think Ortiz-Peterson will be competitive, it won't be a barburner.

Showtime's fight are both pick 'ems and have the higher probability for sustained action.

BTW, I disagree with those who say that Mares-Darch is FOTY material. Darchinyan is too awkward to really be in a FOTY candidate fight. That fight is either Mares healthily outboxing Darch or Darch landing enough big blows to keep Mares off of him while winning rounds and possibly KO'ing Mares.

I'll be watching HBO first while the Showtime one is recording. Showtime easily has the best card so that's why I'll be watching that one last.

Good point. You need to get that good alcohol base going in the so so card so that you have a good buzz already going before starting the better card.

Hadn't thought of that angle. Good call....:good

the only reason I really voted for HBO was because I don't get Showtime. I'll have to catch the fights online the next day or something, but don't get me wrong, but cards are awesome and would watch both live on two different TVs if I could.
