Hope he pulls through, but why does it seem that Japanese or Asian fighters in general suffer in disproportionate amounts from these types of injuries?

I saw the fight and it was a decent scrap but far from a brutal one and one where the fighters took punches like in any fight but nothing that I would consider too much or even close to it. Maybe there was already a pre existing condition. Hope he recovers.

Refs not stopping it when they should? Their corners not stopping it when they should? Has to be something like this.

Awful to hear and hope he pulls through. This era for Japan has been strong yet also grim at the same time. There's been career ending injuries and deaths in Japan more often now sadly.

    Terrible news. Hope he recovers.

I wonder if they are weight cutting dangerously. Seems like Asian fighters do largely populate the lower divisions and there is a market for those guys to fight in Japan.

The increasing numbers of hospitalization and deaths in Japan is startling. Recently we've had Ginjiro Shigeoka, Jin Sasaki, and Hiromasa Urakawa hospitalized. Something has to be improved in the safety measures to lessen the risk of brain damage and deaths. Even though this era of Japan boxing has been at its strongest with more world champions and top prospects it also has seen more career ending injuries as well. Hopefully something can be done. Boxing is only now becoming a more popular sport in Japan but the increase in brain injury could potentially hurt its reputation over there. Would hate for boxing in Japan to end up becoming like South Korea.

    RIP

Not that we needed one but yet another reminder that boxing is a dangerous sport.

I hear they hard spar like crazy in training. That bushido mentality perhaps.

Yeah most likely had preexisting damage like that guy Sergey Kovalev killed. Like Tim Bradley said those "Japans" have a kill or be killed mentality, probably really hard sparring also.
