Well, one thing is for sure in 2008: we had some great knockouts! Here's another candidate for the KO of the year, Santos-Alcine of course: [yt]hgtoNhtqUtc[/yt]
Urango, Miranda, Sylvester...even Abraham - far more devasting... (I exclude Holt for initializing his right hand vs. Torres with a headbutt, though not intentional)
Why doesn't Santos' knockout of Alcine rank right up there with those? It was sharper and it put a fully conscious Alcine in neverland. One punch. Doesn't get any better than that.
Santos fights once in a blue moon now. How he still makes 54 is beyond me. Who exactly was Alcine though? Who has he beaten? The fight had little significance and the KO wasnt that much better. It was nice, 1 punch KO but harldy the KOTY type punch candidate.
What does any of this have to do with knockout of the year? BTW the victory over Simms holds some water. Aren't all KOTY candidates one punch knockouts? So Alcine didn't twirl to the canvas in dramatic fashion. He tried to get up several times and couldn't do it. Off of one punch. And a perfect punch it was.
I've never said that it's gonna win the KOTY award... I've just said it's a candidate for KO of the year... and it was one really nice crisp punch to deserve a legitimate spot... not Abraham-Ayala or Slyvester-Castillejo or Urango-Vilches or Miranda-Banks, but not far behind. :thumbsup
Not KO of the year, but a damn fine one nonetheless. Was Alcine known for having chin issues before Santos got to him?
