Just saw that Travis Walker had his ass handed to him in one round against journeyman TJ Wilson. Walker had a win over US letdown Estrada and if I remember, did very well against Vitali Klitschko in sparring. Walker was one of the few bright spots on the US scene, or so I thought. The US has got two up and coming heavyweights. 1. Chris Arreola. 2. Eddie Chambers. Thats it, there's nobody else after that.
And Thompson. Not really up and coming....but a top ten HW no matter how you slice it. Brock and Byrd could still make soooome noise as well.
True about Thompson, much more contender than prospect. Brock and Byrd could both be taken out by Povetkin within the next couple of months. Of course, if Povetkin fights Brock, it will be because Chambers would have lost to Brock (and pushed back into pack). By the time the IBF tourny is done, There could be one legit US contender (Thompson) and just one prospect who doesn't have to rebound from a setback. (Arreola).
Chances of Chambers losing to Brock are rather slim insofar as Brock is a good style match for fast Eddie. As to whether he can withstand Povetkin's firepower is another matter.
Brock and Bryd have talent but provide little excitement, when Brock fought Timor Ibragimov I fell asleep half way through it, and Bryd cant knock anyone out. I think Chambers is a good fighter, who I went to see fight in pittsburgh. He can make noise and so could Arreola, time will only tell what they really could do in there coming fights.
