Not only a regular SRL but one coming back from retirement at that, so we have Marvin Hagler fighting and losing to a naturally smaller man who was coming back from a multiple year layoff :huh oh dear what's happening :|:|:|

:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl. You've just made a great case for Hopkins being overrated with that 10 best wins list. ps. try not to include Tarver twice: it wasn't that good a win.

That's what an ATG 'smaller man' can do.

Are u actually telling me that SRL a ATG can beat another ATG hagler one weight above him on a close split decision??????

    No way!

I always thought trinidad was like srl
I always thought Oscar tranny boy was like Duran.
And I always viewed Hopkins the racist little *** as hagler, who could switch southpaw and orthodox and give the fans a exciting match!

Correction: Hopkins was a natural SMW-LHW who starved his way down to MW.

In his entire carreer only Tarver was the same size or bigger.

lets cut the blinkered popkins bull**** and take a look at hopkins best wins. lets take away the smoke and the mirrors and look at the real facts

    trinidad
    prime weight = welterweight (147)
    fought hopkins at middleweight (160)
trinidads record at middleweight or above from hopkins onwards = 2 wins / 3 defeats

    winky wright
prime weight - light middleweight (154)
fought hopkins at - 170 lbs
in 57 fights, the hopkins fight was the only fight that wright had weighed over 160 lbs (a full 10lbs difference)

    de la hoya
    prime weight - welterweight (140lbs)
fought hopkins at - middleweight (160lbs)
de la hoya only fought twice in his career at middleweight out of 45 fights -1 win / 1 loss - the win was a very debatable decision over eurobum felix sturm

    pavlik
prime weight - middleweight (160 lbs)
fought hopkins at - 170 lbs
in 34 fights pavlik had only fought 2 minnions at the beginning of his career at 169. all pavliks fights since hopkins have been at the 160 limit

    tarver
    prime weight 175
great 2 weight jump from hopkins and his best win despite tarver being a b-level fighter and going 3 wins / 3 losses from hopkins onwards.

    johnson
prime weight -super mid / light heavy (162 to 175)
fought hopkins at - middleweight (160)
    johnsons record at 160 + from hopkins onwards - 20 wins / 15 defeats / 2 draws
the defeats have come against people of the level of ottke, woods, shieka, gonzales, harmon, branco, vanderpool, Kiwanuka, sosa

    pascal
prime weight - light heavy (175)
fought hopkins - light heavy (175)
despite needing 2 attempts to narrowly beat a previous victim of carl froch, this represents a good victory for hopkins considering his age, fighting at a fair weight and fighting on foreign soil.

    now throw into the equation

    - the sensational clinton mitchell beating hopkins
    - the legendary mercado drawing with hopkins
    - hopkins throwing himself out of the ring and embarrassingly feigning an injury versus ATG robert allan
    - jones deservedly beating hopkins
    - jermain taylor who got sparked out by pavlik, froch, and abrahams deservedly beating hopkins twice
    - calzaghe moving up weight and deservedly beating hopkins on foreign soil with cortez refereeing and 3 american judges
    - carl froch victim pascal getting a draw with hopkins

8 times bernard hopkins has got in the ring and hasn't been good enough to come out the victor

one of BHop's toughest fights. keep in mind that was fought at an altitude that Hopkins had only a week to adjust to.

    p.s. you Korena?

They clearly don't compare to Duran, Hearns and Loenard.

But Hopkins simply fought the best available, who else was there fighting at middleweight or below he could have fought that was as good as Duran, Hearns and Leonard? Answer, nobody, yet fans like you criticise him for not fighting hypothetical fighters that don't exist, that lunacy.

The argument is not whether he is as good as Hagler or the quality of their respective opposition, the argument is why does Hopkins get criticised for facing the best smaller men available and Hagler does not?

Here's another way to look at it. Hopkins is the man. He's one of the best fighters of his era. People who attempt to discredit him by claiming he only beats up smaller men, are simply ignorant.

you look at hopkins resume and he's beat quite a few good fighters but no great fighters at a fair weight. you then look at the fact that there have been 8 occasions that bernard has got into the ring and not been good enough to win.

you have to give hopkins a great deal of credit for longjevity and his tactical brain though.

As always, out of all the morons and the haters, comes someone with a bit of objectivity, and enough boxing knowledge to perform some intelligent reasoning. Thank Christ for posters like luf, otherwise this forum really would be nothing but a troll-infested sewer.
