There was a time when you had to fight at heavyweight, if you couldn't get down to 154 lbs! Personaly I think we should reintroduce that!
Think of cruiser, any guy worth a damn historically moved up to chase glory in the glamour division Making a regular hwt might make cruiser more popular or stable but anyone at the new class will win the title and move up to be the real hwt champ
Oh great KFC, you were polite with your ultra-negative sentiments. Your bias is betrayed by the mocking icon at a playful name "Brusierweight". Hopefully you at least read the link to grasp what I argued, otherwise you have not the basic rationale to oppose something you hear little of the justifications for. The poll at the other site, ran slightly in favor of the idea. Though I mind not even slightly a strong disagreement. Janitor, you REALLY believe there should be 154 & HW? The point should be maching guys of roughly equal sizes so skills, fitness, tenacity can tell. If you just want to see who can win, let us have no divsions at all. A bit of consoidation of lower divisions wold easily make room for my plan. While men did move up to the glamor division, it is increasingly unfair to those who are natural tweeners to not have a proportionate size distinctions between divisions. Increasingly because when modern boxing began & for decades afterwards, the average HW was under 200 lbs. But when better nutrition & training has added height & muscle, there should be an adjustment for fairness. Granted the biggest guys may not be better-which is why they could fight regular heavies like today, it would encourage more rigor in them & people like to see both giants & cheer for the underdog. When you consolidate the absurd alphabet soup of the belts you would have somewhat less titles with my plan.

So maulerweight, bruiserweight, heavyweight, and hopefully, supercruiserweight & junior superheavyweight, great. I mentioned SuperHW, don't forget we must keep Cruiserweight, thiis takes care of everything over 175. Now how about over 280? Maybe those really big AND dedicated powerlifters or bodybuilders/NFL lineman types who would be lean approaching 300 want an entry into boxing, & would have trouble, at least initially, competing against the best "little" guys, so the best they would need to face would be a Valuev. Then we could have a post 350/360 lb. division for those monsters who also have trouble leaning out. Giant pro & sumo wrestlers can't compete fairly, so they would have equal footing with boxing novices (barring the occasional Butterbean). Let's call this "Super-Duperweight" Next what about those who almost invariably are morbidly obese? Sure, some will be 75% (only severely obese), but it is roughly similar, so starting at 500 seems fair. Hence "Stupor-weight". Lastly, no little guys or those with unfair athletic advantages will be able to dominate if we make the top division 800 lbs. This weight class will put a premium on walking under your own power & the ability to strike meaningfully without falling off balance. "Nuclear Weight" is born. That should be all that is ever necessary, until genetic engineering enable growing bigger skeletons & comic book muscular proportions. So later we can go to 1200 or so for them, & over one ton for FAT genetically modified monsters. Lessee..."Frigateweight" & "AlteredStateweight" but the above plan sets us up for YEARS of sporting & diverting competition! :stir
Maybe if the divisions we already have were changed so that there was a little more space between them we wouldn't need to think about slipping in more divisions. Might stop fighters moving up and down divisions for fun picking up belt after belt with a little bit of high-tech dieting which is better understood these days. We used to have 147, 154, 160, 168, 175, 195, 195+ We could have 150, 162, 174, 187, 202, 220, 220+ The problem for me is that I don't think I could get used to it !! 147,160 and 175 aren't just numbers to me, they have significance and history and I guess a lot of fans feel the same way. Failing that, I suppose squeezing a division in between Cruiser and heavy looks sensible, but there would probably be a long wait for the champ who could lift the division like Holy did for cruiser.
