Ricky Burns is trying to spin the performance positive, saying Thain picked his shots well and dancing around the fact that he doesn't turn them over well.

They sparred together a bit, apparently.

Hopefully it isn't necessary, but I've got a prior engagement with Mrs. Butt that will mean leaving in about two hours (5:30pm EST) and Crolla and Limond were pegged as getting in there at about 5. Stupid BoxNation needs to take a cue from SKY and cram all their broadcasts into nice tidy two-hour slots. :cus **** me, that chopped-and-screwed style of showing undercards would actually be welcome.

I've got a feeling it will end early enough before duty calls, but in case it doesn't the torch may need to be passed so the show may go on.

Round 1

Stiff jabs by Simmons, coming forward. A few flicks of the wrist by Anthony on the back foot. Right hand by Anthony, blocked. Simmons is coming forward, but Anthony is doing all the punching. NICE stiff counter jab by Simmons. 1-2 by Simmons. Anthony's in the corner, getting drilled. He manages to escape and circle out to his left. Simmons hooks the body and then drills another right hand through to the grill. Anthony claps up high with both arms and just bounces his arms off Simmons' shoulders. Stiff jab by Simmons backs Anthony up a step. BIG right cross knocks Anthony's head back and sends him ducking and reeling into the corner, almost down. High push jabs by Anthony, one catching Simmons coming in.

10-9 Simmons

 

Round 2

Simmons comes forward and harassing Anthony with pecking jabs to the face that get him leaning back and cricking his neck. When he does, Simmons lets the overhand right come booming down to land bluntly on the side of his skull. Anthony keeps grabbing, pushing off, trotting off to the side, spoiling. Left hook to the body by Simmons. Anthony backs straight into a corner with his guard up, not minding where he's going. Simmons takes a step forward without a punch loaded and Anthony takes advantage by flapping his way into a low clinch about the waist to slow Simmons down. Overhand right by Simmons backs Anthony up a step. Another puts him int he corner. Clinch as Anthony reaches out and pulls him in, leaning back against the ropes with Simmons in a bear hug. Right hand by Anthony at the bell, cocked fairly predictably but landing and hard. Simmons hardly blinks.

Round 3

Anthony is launching both arms out while getting backed up from one corner to the next. Simmons advances slowly, taking aim and landing with jabs and rights. Clinch. Clubbing overhand right behind the head by Simmons as they're pressed together. STIFF jab knocks Anthony back to the ropes. Big 1-2 hurts him badly. Anthony stumbles toward the corner, then comes the other way to try and tie up. Simmons comes forward, still cautious. Anthony jabs up high into the guard of the taller Simmons. Clinch. Simmons tosses Anthony several feet back toward the ropes. 1-2 by Simmons.

30-27 Simmons

 

Round 4

Simmons comes forward working the jab. Anthony is leaning back and trying to **** up a high-flying right hand. Finally he releases the catapult lever while leaning back into a corner, and catches Simmons right about the chin. Simmons answers back with a straight flurry that gets Anthony back on the retreat. Anthony draws the bowstring for another right but gets blocked. Simmons lands two stiff jabs and a cross to the face as Anthony backs up. Body shots by Simmons. Stiff jabs as Anthony bends over to his right and tucks his chin. Anthony hops back toward the ropes, then scurries in with a few uppercuts to the stomach while bowing his head to let Simmons' right hands cascade over his back.
