Speaking of BoxNation, is there any reason we have to sit through the horrible commentary from Sheridan? I'd much rather listed to Lampley, Steward, Merchant and Lederman with the occasional bit of guest commentary from someone like Ward and Broner. The HBO team is, by far, the best in the world. I think it'd make a big difference to the American cards if we got their commentary.
I think Crolla was pretty good to be honest. I thought he was the best of the 3 ''experts'' last night. As long as you have an opinion that you can back up with valid points then your experience in the game is irrelevant. It's not exclusive to boxing either. Look at Pelé, one of the greatest to ever play football but comes out with the most mind-bogglingly horrific statements I've ever seen. On the other hand there's someone like Richie Sadlier(not many Brits will know him) who only had a few seasons at Millwall before retiring, yet he's a pretty damn good pundit. That's just the way I see it anyways.
Any reason why we get Col Bob? Crolla is a very decent pundit seems to know his stuff. Anyone happen to see the night they had Kevin Mitchell on? Think it was in the York Hall, it was hilarious, poor fella was talking like a washing machine, everything he attempted to say came out wrong.:yep
With the fullest of repect to both Paul and Anthony why wasnt Boxnations best two boxers the pundits (Burns and Cleverly)?
just because your a world champion doesnt mean your gonna be a good pundit... clevs not exsactly fluent when being interviewed so why put him on as a pundit ? and people may not understand burns thick scottish accent haha
The hate for Gallagher is pretty daft IMO. Crolla has looked really good under Gallagher, his wins over Morris, Watson and Limond were all impressive. Anthony's defense and accuracy in the first 2 or 3 rounds against Matthews were superb, then he seemed to lose focus, got caught and fought like a mong, tactically.
:rofl :dead We don't want to see that rat (Cleverly) on the screen for about 3 hours. And we sure don't want to here Ricky saying 'Errrrrm' every 5 seconds.
Paul Smith is the bollocks as a pundit, really like him yet I detested him before. Just like Gary Neville.
You have to pay for the HBO rights if you use their feed I believe. Even though Col Bob was a biased ******* it doesn't mean HBO are saints. They really made a mess of JMM v Pac 3 :-(
Agree mate, I think he comes across as very knowledgable and it's clear he lives for the sport. He is also very respectful of other fighters and is happy to give credit.
think people have problems with BN either way. If they got a "regular joe" i.e. a Richie Woodhall type or anyone from sky? you'd complain that it was a "jobs for the boys" act going on and the same tv pundits are getting these roles. So, BN goes the other way offering young fighters a chance to learn how to pundit and get a little bit of cash back for their troubles. And still people aren't happy. Nothing wrong with that at all in my opinion. And, I was a bit gutted that Steve Lillis wasn't on the show as he's usually a decent pundit. Steve Bunce well I am slowly getting used to seeing him on BN. he does waffle on sometimes but he's also a fairly decent pundit. Who else is there? Paul Dempsey? Frank Bruno? Chris Eubank? Prince Naseem?
Just because someone is talented at a sport doesn't make their opinions or ability to provide insight good. I rememeber on Soccer Saturday when Rodney Marsh was still there he tried to shoot down an opinion from Stelling because "You've never played the game so you wouldn't understand". And Stelling says "So you have to have been a top pro to understand football?" and Marsh goes "Yes Jeff". Then Stelling goes "Rodney, would you say Jose Mourinho understands the game?" And Rodney looks at him, starts laughing and says "Fair enough Jeff". There are fight fans who know the history of the sport far better than most fighters and I didn't see Crolla, but if his insight and ability to provide input is good then it is good regardless. I can see where you're coming from, but for example Gary Neville is a great pundit (as much as I hate the ****) and Gazza was ****ing appalling. But clearly Gazza was the far more gifted player.
