Anthony Dirrell The circumstances of Dirrell's arrest were unclear, but Flint attorney Frank J. Manley, who said he is representing Dirrell, said he was being held on suspicion of armed robbery. "Our position is that he's innocent of these charges, and we look forward to getting him out (of jail) as quickly as possible," Manley said. "The kid has fought cancer, and he'll fight these charges with the same effort that he fought cancer." Dirrell, who is 12-0 with 11 knockouts, is coming off a 10-month battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and hasn't fought in more than a year. He had undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments and hoped to be cleared to fight again by March, according to Flint Journal files. Leon Lawson, Dirrell's grandfather who raised and trained Anthony and older brother Andre Dirrell, feels police have the wrong man. "They just made a big mistake," said Lawson, who is in Winter Haven, Fla., training Andre for a fight Friday night in Minnesota. "I guarantee he did not do that... . He's got no cause to do that." Lawson said he believes Anthony Dirrell was on his way to a radiation treatment for his cancer when he was pulled over by police. Lawson said Anthony was to undergo one more treatment this week, then join him and Andre in Minnesota for the fight. Lawson instead will fly home Wednesday, and said his son, Leon Lawson Jr., will be Andre's cornerman for Friday's fight.
