I feel like the pied piper having led many astray with the vBookie betting on Fitz...although to be fair it sounds like this could've been debated either way and gone differently on a three-card array. WTF is up with this having been scored by a single referee? I thought in that part of the world they only did that for bouts scheduled at non-championship distances (4, 6, and 8...) This was 10x3 for the vacant BUI title - so there ought to have been judges, no? :huh
Also, 97-94 is a weird card. That means Vann must have put down two drawn rounds along with two Fitz's way and six O'Kane's. (making it 98-94 before the deduction to O'Kane) At least with a normal contest scored by judges the outcome doesn't hinge on a single potentially oddball card.
Might be. :conf Having to read between the lines here. Nobody on Twitter said much about that - although it did sound pretty scrappy with all the low blow warnings and the deduction.
Irish title bouts are always scored by a single referee, and the only reasoning we get other title fights scored by 3 judges is due to the sanctioning body's (EBU, WBO, IBF etc) insistence on that being the case. Of course British title fights have 3 judges now (since 2005), but that has no effect on the BUI, and title fights sanctioned by the BUI, be that in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.
