Anthony Fowler wants Fitzgerald rematch or winner of Cheeseman v Metcalf Read interview here https://cpboxing6.blogspot.com/2021/03/fowler-wants-fitzgerald-rematch-in.html?m=1 Ready for Jorge Fortea ✅ Talks Fitzgerald rematch ✅ Predicts Okolie to become World Champion ✅
I have always maintained that Fowler beats Fitzgerald in a rematch. Fowler took him too lightly and didn’t go into the first fight with the right frame of mind. He won’t make that same mistake in a rematch. Whilst Fitzgerald can’t do any better than that first fight.
As you know, I don't like him. I think he lacks self awareness and is a complete tit. I agree though, I think deep down he just wants to be liked. He just tries a bit hard and it comes across as desperate and dislikable. I'd be amazed if Fitzgerald beats him after the year he's had. I think in different circumstances Fitzgerald would beat him again, but sadly he's so self destructive.
I'd rather see Fowler vs Cheeseman at this stage, that fight was rumored years ago, before Fitzgerald was even in the mix, and would be an absolute all out war. Great fight. Scott should in my opinion take his time and have a couple of fights to find his feet and get back to his best before contemplating the Fowler rematch. I hope he doesn't allow Matchroom to rush him in to a big fight which benefits Fowler more than him if done quickly. He needs to be 100% for that fight, if he is well advised he should make sure he goes into that fight at his best physically and mentally. If he does that, he beats Fowler again. He's far more talented. He's better in every department. IF Scott lived the life of a professional athlete outside the ring these past years he would make Fowler look silly. He would beat him 9 times out of 10.
Agreed. Matchroom will try everything they can to give Fowler all the advantages, but I think they're not putting nearly as much energy into Fowler now that it looks like he won't achieve a huge amount at world level. The Fitzgerald loss was a big setback and was supposed to be his equivalent of a Joshua vs Whyte 'grudge match' to get his name out there.
He's 30 years old and still at British Level. There was a lot of excitement about him back in the amateurs. I think he should have turned over a few years earlier.
Some great fights domestically at this weight. This is why we love this sport so much. As much as I do think, that all things been equal, fitzy would beat Fowler every time they met you have to take into consideration that Fowler is a true professional and since his loss he has been back in the gym still trying to perfect his craft, whilst fitzy has had a lot of turmoil and upheaval and probably hasn't gotten any better since his win over Fowler. Hard work and dedication is highly valued in this sport because, it works! And Fowler has been putting the hard work in, he's hooked up with Shane mcguigan who is a good trainer and I think that they can add another level into Fowler craft. It's also been mentioned that MR would be behind Fowler and although I do agree that it probably wouldn't be as much as they were behind him in the first fight it would still be enough to start tipping the scales in Fowler favour. I'd like to see a rematch and whilst I'd be behind fitzy it's not a foregone conclusion. Great domestic rematch this one.
