Anthony Fowler wants Fitzgerald rematch or Cheeseman v Metcalf winner

Fitz stops Fowler late on this time around. No messing around with the cards. He knows he can hurt Fowler.

As I have previously said on here since August 2018, Fitz has better footwork, a better punch selection, a decent chin and he hits harder.

He was fighting at probably only 70% last time around for reasons well documented. I think he'll be more focused and dedicated this time around.

There is a reason why since the 1st fight, Fowler has only fought an English Titlist and lower ranked journeymen whilst avoiding Eggington, Conway, Cheeseman, etc.

He is waiting for the Fitzgerald cash out fight. Loses and where does he go?

To semi quote Fury, "Fitz wins every day of the week and twice on a Sunday".

He's at best European level and no more. An absolute moron of a man too.

Fitzy needs a few warmups then he'll be back to end this Scouse joker.

 

I think they were expecting to beat Fitzgerald and that bit of needle (ala Whyte vs Joshua in 2015) would be the boost his profile needed. That loss, Fitzgerald's issues and Covid have really impacted his last couple of years.

 

If he loses to Fitzgerald / Cheeseman etc, it's difficult to see where he goes.

I think if he moves up to 160 he would do better.

 

Fowler’s style will always cause him issues as he steps up against top level boxers. He’s stiff and predictable but albeit solid at what he does. If you let him fight his fight you will lose 10 times out of 10. However if you box around him, force him to use intuition and fight you in a way he doesn’t like then he’ll come unstuck, such as what Fitz did with movement, counter punching and occasionally backing him up.

The positive to Fowler is that he clearly lives the life and trains like an animal. He therefore has built up good strength and a solid fitness base which will mean he’s always going to be competitive.

Now the issue with the Fitz rematch is clearly that fitness aspect and more importantly, the sharpness. Fitz wasn’t 100% for the fight but was match fit and able to box 10 rounds and was certainly sharp enough. The question is, if Fitz isn’t in the right place for the rematch, he won’t be able to time Fowler and make him miss consistently and Fowler could win off fitness and work rate alone.

Makes it intriguing. I remember when they were both up and coming that Fowler vs Cheeseman had proper needle in it and they really wanted to fight one another, only for all that to fall away when Cheeseman lost then drew. I’d like to see that fight first and the winner getting a rematch with Fitz, if necessary.

 

Fitzgerald has far more talent. A fully focused and fit Fitzgerald should always beat him

I do expect Fowler to have improved under the Mcguigans though as Shane improves everyone he trains

 

I just think Fitzgerald has Fowler's number.

 

The overrating of fitz on here is laughable. Weve already seen his ceiling imo.

 

Taking Fowler in the the rematch

 

I don't think he made that mistake in the first fight. Personally, think Fitz is (or was) just simply better than him.

Hard to look past Fowler in the rematch though considering what Fitz has been up to since

 

The scores were 95-94, 95-94 and 94-96. It was razor tight between the two and would have been very interesting to see how a 12 rounder had gone. Personally, I think they're very evenly matched along with Cheeseman and Conway. They're all domestic level.

Cheeseman can mix things up a bit and box on the backfoot but like Kelly he hasn't got the tank to do it for a full fight. Conway is probably the most skilled out the lot but doesn't have the power to move beyond domestic level.
Fitzgerald is very good at plan A but I think he's a little one dimensional and can look a little lost when he needs to adapt.
Fowler is also very one dimensional. Does the fundamentals right and very fit but it's not enough to get him beyond domestic level either.
