Anthony Joshua “boxed Tyson Fury’s head off” when the pair met in a behind-closed-doors sparring session more than a decade ago, it has been claimed.

Soon after the sparring session, Fury was quoted by BBC London as saying that Joshua was one to watch after admitting that he had been caught by the amateur.

“If I’d have had a bit of a weak chin, I’d have been knocked out for a month,” Fury said at the time. “He’s very, very good and he’s only young, 20, watch out for that name Anthony Joshua – he is one prospect for the future.

“He came out at me for three rounds and he gave me a beating – I’m not going to deny it, he gave me hell for leather for three rounds.”

    ...

Fury got in his head in after 1 round. Trainer stopped the spar after 3 rounds so Fury couldn't take over.

    As you'd expect.

    A decade ago.

Before Joshua the brand, Joshua the Instagram bodybuilder, Joshua the guy who gormlessly fought another man (who has T-Rex arms) on the inside despite having the reach advantage.

    Means nothing.

    It always means nothing. Nothing.

What stage of training camp was each man at? Was one of them active and the other rolling out or in? Anyone working on anything specific? Anyone have anything else going on?

    And of course, nobody knows.

Sparring stories are nice, and I like reading about them, but it's embarrassing when people try to make them mean something because they never do, because you don't know the context. You are guessing.

Fury got his arse kicked after AJ started to box instead of throwing wild haymakers.

If we believe sparring stories, supposedly Aj has been flattened more than once

And Spadafora kicked Floyd's arse in sparring. Funny how noone would pick Spadafora to beat Floyd in a match.

AJ has been full on KOd many times in sparring by lesser fighters so I wouldn't put too much into it. Fury being shocked at a young AJ being able to rough him up for three rounds isn't a damning indictment on Fury, it just shows that AJ had talent. It also sounds like he came in all guns blazing for the sparring which isn't really the point of it, so well done for being that guy I guess.

Fury is a more serious fighter now though. Same thing probably wont happen.
